In a deeply emotional moment that touched the hearts of fans across the nation, Filipina actress and singer Maymay Entrata broke down in tears after confirming the passing of her beloved mother, who had worked abroad as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) for many years. The news sent shockwaves through social media, as supporters expressed their sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the young star.

A Mother’s Sacrifice

Maymay’s mother, based in Japan for the majority of Maymay’s life, had worked tirelessly overseas to provide a better future for her children. Like millions of other OFWs, her mother sacrificed being physically present during milestones in her daughter’s life in order to ensure the family’s survival and stability.

Maymay, who has often spoken publicly about how much she missed her mom growing up, always credited her success to her mother’s hard work and endless sacrifices. In past interviews, she would often tear up recalling childhood memories of longing for her mother’s embrace.

Maymay’s Emotional Tribute

Shortly after the devastating news broke, Maymay posted a heartfelt message on social media, sharing how crushed she was by the loss:

“Mama, I can’t believe you’re gone. I waited for the day we could spend more time together. You were always my strength. Everything I am today, I owe to your love and your sacrifices. Mahal na mahal kita, Ma.”

The post was accompanied by an old photo of her mother holding a young Maymay in her arms — a simple yet powerful image that resonated with fans and fellow OFW families.

An Outpouring of Support

Celebrities, fans, and members of the OFW community quickly rallied around Maymay, flooding her social media accounts with messages of support and prayers. Many shared their own stories of loss, expressing solidarity with the pain she’s experiencing.

Her “ASAP Natin ‘To” family and fellow Kapamilya stars extended their condolences, with some urging the public to give Maymay the space and time to grieve privately.

A Symbol of Thousands

Maymay Entrata’s story is one shared by thousands of Filipino families — children raised from afar by parents working abroad in hopes of building a better life. Her mother’s passing has become more than just a celebrity tragedy; it has reignited conversations about the emotional toll of labor migration and the sacrifices OFWs make every single day.

What’s Next for Maymay?

While Maymay has yet to announce if she will be taking a break from her current projects, sources close to the actress say she is spending quiet time with her family and relatives as they prepare for her mother’s memorial

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, but Kapamilya star Maymay Entrata is already mourning the passing of her mother, Lorna Entrata, 53, due to cancer.

On Friday, May 16, 2025, Maymay shared a Reel on Instagram, showing her mother’s trip to Japan in 2024, still wearing suits and sports gear.

Lorna is based in Japan because she works there.

Maymay said she is very lucky to have Lorna as her mother.

“My dear Mother, It is a great honor that you were my Mother,” said Maymay.

“You bravely faced all the trials and sacrifices to support our entire family.

“I will miss you Mother, I will miss the person who loved me and will love me completely for the rest of my life. “I learned to love unconditionally from you and I will carry everything I learned from you with me for the rest of my life.”

So Maymay advises her followers, as much as possible, while you are still with the one you love in life, hug them, and let them know how much you love them. And she says don’t waste even a single day without showing it, so that there are no regrets.

“Because the day will come when hugs will be just memories, and words left unsaid will be a burden on the heart. Don’t wait until it’s too late before you start loving fully,” she added.

Maymay did not say when her mother died
