Actress Mileyn Deon stood firm in her decision not to leave any properties or inheritance to her two sons, Thomas and Lucas. In an interview with broadcaster Bernadette Sembrano, which aired on YouTube, Mileyn admitted that she is a strict disciplinarian when it comes to raising her children.
After netizens heard Mileyn’s statements, the actress received a wide range of reactions—many criticized her for being selfish and an unloving mother, while others supported her parenting style, saying that it’s a good way to teach children not to grow up dependent on their parents.
“I have to because I’m a single mom, and I have to do both jobs. And I’m a mother of boys,” Mileyn shared. She said she wants to raise her sons to be responsible and respectable men.
“I’ve dated many men—not that many—but I’ve dated men, and I know some who don’t know anything about life or how to navigate it because they were too spoiled,” she added.
“So I don’t want my children to end up that way. That’s why I’m a disciplinarian—because I want them to be in a good place before I let them go,” she explained.
Mileyn also shared that when the time comes that she is no longer around, she wants everything she taught her children to remain with them. She emphasized that she will not pass down properties to them because she wants them to achieve things on their own.
However, she stressed that education is the only inheritance she wants to leave them. “That’s the only thing I can give. I could give them 5 million—but what are they going to do with that if they don’t know how to manage it or handle it?” she said. “That’s literally all I can give,” she added.
Even her beach house in La Union will not be handed down to her sons, as she wants them to learn to work hard for what they have.
“What will they learn from that? They’ll just run it into the ground if they don’t have proper education. I learned everything. I keep equipping myself with tools. I keep putting things in my toolbox—and I’m not going to pass that toolbox to my kids. I’ll guide them and let them learn on their own so they can build their own toolboxes,” Mileyn explained.
