Manila, Philippines – In a surprising turn of events, television icon Willie Revillame and veteran actor Philip Salvador failed to secure seats in the 2025 national elections, leaving many supporters stunned and voicing a mix of disappointment, confusion, and frustration across social media.
Both personalities, known for their immense popularity in showbiz and public service efforts, were widely expected to perform well at the polls. However, official results released by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) confirmed their loss, sending shockwaves across their fan base and the political landscape.
Public Reactions: “We Thought They Had It in the Bag”
On X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, thousands of netizens expressed disbelief:
“Willie Revillame has helped so many people. I can’t believe the voters turned their backs on him!” one netizen posted.
“Philip Salvador may be controversial, but his passion for helping the masses was genuine,” commented another.
Some supporters speculated that the duo’s campaign lacked the structure and ground support needed to compete with seasoned politicians.
“Popularity isn’t enough anymore. You need a solid political machine,” a political analyst tweeted.
Others, however, pointed out the irony of celebrities underestimating the power of grassroots politics.
“This election proves that charity on TV doesn’t always translate to votes,” said one post that went viral.
Critics Weigh In: “Was This Bound to Happen?”
Despite their strong fan following, critics argue that both Revillame and Salvador entered the political race with limited preparation.
Revillame, known for his hit game shows and philanthropic acts, focused on appealing to the masses emotionally. However, observers say he fell short on presenting clear legislative platforms. Likewise, Salvador, who has been embroiled in controversies over the years, struggled to rebuild public trust.
“Their campaigns felt more like reruns than a fresh vision,” a political science professor commented in an interview.
What’s Next for the Two Celebrities?
As of now, both Revillame and Salvador have not released official statements regarding their election defeat. However, close friends say Willie is taking the loss “gracefully,” and is considering returning to television soon.
“He’s heartbroken, but he also knows his mission to help the poor isn’t over,” revealed a longtime colleague.
Salvador, on the other hand, is reportedly staying low-profile and reflecting on his future steps.
A Wake-Up Call for Celebrity Candidates?
The defeat of two high-profile figures in the entertainment industry might signal a shift in the public’s expectations. While Filipinos have historically embraced celebrities in government, the 2025 elections suggest voters are becoming more discerning.
As one viral comment puts it:
“We want leaders, not just personalities.”
One thing is clear – the road to public service requires more than fame. For Revillame and Salvador, the defeat may sting, but the lesson could be the beginning of a stronger, more grounded political journey – if they choose to take it.
Lito Lapid still in Magic 12; Willie Revillame, Phillip Salvador lag behind
Senator Lito Lapid is still holding on to his 12th spot in the senatorial race with 12,652,133 votes, while actor Phillip Salvador and TV host Willie Revillame are far from the Senate Magic 12.
According to the partial, unofficial results of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of 11:18 p.m., Lapid retained his Top 12 standing as he aims for his fourth term as senator.
Lapid, who remains active in showbiz with his casting in “FPJ’s Ang Batang Quiapo,” is running under the administration ticket.
Meanwhile, Salvador is in the 19th spot with 9,643,990 votes, while Revillame ranked 22nd with 8,132,470.
The other famous personality who entered the Magic 12 is broadcaster Erwin Tulfo, who made it on the fourth spot with 16,287,942 votes. His brother Ben is in the 13th spot with 11,506,081.
On the other hand, incumbent Ramon “Bong” Revilla ranked 14th with 11,417,842 votes.
Other celebrities who are within the top 20 spots are Jimmy Bondoc (17th spot with 10,043,282) and Manny Pacquiao (18th spot with 9,871,239).
Detained evangelist and TV personality Apollo Quiboloy holds the 31st spot with 5,419,456 votes.
