The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) confirmed on April 17, 2025, that the late Superstar Nora Aunor, who passed away on Holy Wednesday, April 16, at the age of 71, will be accorded state necrological services and funeral rites.

The nation’s due respect for Nora Aunor is not only due to her contributions to film and television, but also because of her recognition as a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts. She was awarded the said award under Proclamation No. 1390, signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte in June 2022.

According to the NCCA, the Superstar is deserving of the full award that is only given to distinguished personalities who have made significant contributions to the arts, culture, and history of the country. Aside from the necrological services, the agency also announced that Nora Aunor will be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.

Her burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 208, signed by former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. on June 7, 1973. According to this decree, respected National Artists may be buried at the said place in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the country.

For more than five decades in the industry, she has been recognized for her unforgettable roles and acting skills.
