The Philippine entertainment industry is once again mourning the loss of a multi-awarded actor and director, Ricky Davao. Ricky passed away at his home in Quezon City on the afternoon of May 1, 2025, at the age of 63. He was set to celebrate his 64th birthday on May 30.
Viva Entertainment, where Ricky worked on many films, confirmed his death in a social media post on Friday, May 2. According to information we gathered, Ricky had been confined for a long time at a hospital in Taguig City due to his illness. However, he was brought home a few days before he passed away.
Those close to Ricky were aware of his condition, but the public was not informed out of respect for his wish to keep things private. His remains will be laid to rest at The Heritage Park in Taguig City. The family is expected to release a statement regarding the date and time of the wake so that fans can pay their final respects.
Ricky is survived by his three children with ex-wife Jackie Lou Blanco—Kenneth, Rikki Mae, and Ara—as well as his current partner Mayet Malkadaroca. His real name was Frederick Charles Caballes Davao, and he was the son of the late veteran actor Charly Davao. His siblings—Sinabeng, Myyn, and Charlon Davao—are also in the entertainment industry.
In his 47-year career, Ricky starred in over 130 films and more than 30 TV series. In an interview in October 2023, Ricky shared that he began his showbiz journey as a member of the Viker Dancers before fully transitioning into acting. He entered the acting world in 1978 with a minor role in the film Patayin si Mediavillo, which starred Fernando Poe Jr.
This was followed by other small roles in Totoo Ba ang Chismis (1981), Ang Babae sa Ilog (1981), School Girls (1981), Condem (1984), Ang Rino (1984), and Bulaklak sa City Jail (1984). Eventually, he gained recognition for supporting roles in White Slavery (1985), Magdusa Ka (1986), Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat sa Akin (1987), Huwag Mong Buhayin ang Bangkay (1987), and Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig (1987).
He reached leading man status in films such as Misis Ko, Misis Mo (1988), Natutulog Pa ang Diyos (1988), Isusumbong Kita sa Diyos (1988), Huwag Mong Itanong Kung Bakit (1988), and Abot Hanggang Sukdulan (1989). His career continued to flourish, appearing in so many films that they’re difficult to count—making him one of the most celebrated actors in Philippine entertainment history.
Ricky also excelled in theater, where he honed his acting skills. He showcased his directing talent through several episodes of ABS-CBN’s “Maalaala Mo Kaya” and GMA7’s “Magpakailanman.”
He was not one to flaunt wealth or chase luxury. Instead, he found joy in simple pleasures—spending time with his children, sharing meals with friends, and immersing himself in his craft. He was known for his humility, generosity, and the genuine kindness he showed to everyone he met.
Colleagues often described him as a gentleman of the industry, someone who led by example and inspired others to give their best to every project. Financially, Ricky enjoyed the stability that came with a long and successful career in the entertainment industry. Although his exact net worth was never made public, his steady acting and directing work, along with endorsement deals and festival appearances, allowed him to provide comfortably for his family and support causes close to his heart.
He never boasted—instead, he chose to focus on the quality of his work and the well-being of his loved ones. In his final year, Ricky faced health challenges that he and his family chose to keep private. On May 1, 2025, Ricky Davao passed away at the age of 63.
The specific cause of death was not disclosed, but those close to him shared that he had bravely battled a chronic or terminal illness. His family asked for privacy and understanding, choosing to honor Ricky’s life and legacy rather than focus on the details of his passing. News of Ricky’s death sent shockwaves through the Philippine entertainment community.
Tributes poured in from actors, directors, producers, and fans, all sharing stories of Ricky’s generosity, professionalism, and the unforgettable characters he brought to life. For many, Ricky Davao was not just an actor—he was a mentor, a friend, and a symbol of excellence in the industry. His children, now grown, spoke of the values their father passed on to them: hard work, humility, and the importance of family.
Ricky Davao’s legacy is one of artistry, integrity, and love. He leaves behind a body of work that will continue to inspire generations of actors and filmmakers. More importantly, he leaves behind a family who loved him and a community that will never forget his contributions. As fans revisit his films and television shows, they remember not only the characters he played, but the devoted, compassionate man who remained true to his craft until the very end.
