In a barangay in Quezon City, everyone knew that Ricardo had been having an affair with a young woman named Clarissa for 10 years. Only his first wife, Alona, gritted her teeth and endured. She had made a fuss, threatened divorce, and tried to keep the family together for her two children… but all in vain. Ricardo still calmly went out with his mistress, even brazenly brought her home, treating Alona as if she were invisible.
Resentment, bitterness, and illness gradually eroded. Then one day, Alona passed away in tears, leaving behind two children who had not yet grown up.
Before the mourning period had ended, Clarissa moved into the house and took over as the first wife. At first, everything seemed peaceful: Ricardo pampered her, the children gradually became obedient, and outsiders thought she had “won the final victory.”
However, exactly 5 years later, everything collapsed.
Ricardo fell seriously ill and was bedridden. Her assets were depleted by medicine and hospital stays. Clarissa began to show her true colors: she was not keen on spending money, she was superficial in her care, and she only cared about keeping the land papers in her hands.
The climax was on the fifth anniversary of Alona’s death. The whole family gathered at the big house in Caloocan. Clarissa was preparing the feast when suddenly, Ricardo’s two stepchildren stood up and announced a shocking news:
“We have requested a copy of all the assets our parents left behind. This entire land and house belong to our biological mother. The papers in your hands are completely worthless. From today, please move out.”
The whole family gasped, Clarissa turned pale and trembled, unable to stand. At that moment, a paternal uncle slowly added, each word like a knife:
“Before she died, Alona had foreseen. She quietly transferred all her assets to her children, leaving only a small portion for her cousin to keep. We have been silent for the past 5 years, waiting to see how she would live with this family. And now… you reap what you sow!”
Her husband, Ricardo, who was lying in the room listening, burst into tears, calling out his first wife’s name in despair. As for Clarissa – from a mistress to a second wife – now she was left with nothing, no name, no status, no pity.
At that moment, the whole barangay murmured:
“The first wife left in grief, but in the end, she was the one who won in silence.”
