We caught up with the son and confidante of TV and movie icon Rodel Fernando, a veteran entertainment writer, on the last night of the late actress’s funeral at Heritage Park in Taguig City.

One of the things we discussed was where and when did Nora start being called Ate Guy and if it has any connection to her career or personal life.

According to the award-winning actress and her story to Rodel, she started being called Ate Guy because of her boyish behavior.

The Superstar was said to have walked and acted like a tomboy in her youth, which is why some of her workmates were amused by her nickname Guy.

So, that’s the simple story of Ate Guy’s “legend”. Meanwhile, Rodel also told us that the late showbiz icon truly cried over the loss of her singing voice.

Nora truly regrets that she can no longer sing after having problems with her throat and vocal chords.

“She cries when she thinks about singing. She hopes she could still do concerts if her voice hadn’t been damaged,” said Rodel, former president of the Philippine Movie Press Club or PMPC.

Ate Guy even tried to sing “happy birthday” several times but she was completely out of tune.

The remains of Nora Aunor were brought to her final resting place at the Heroes’ Cemetery yesterday, April 22, after a State necrological and funeral service was held at the Manila Metropolitan Theater.
