Four-year-old Maliauchin Masungsong, one of the two victims who died in the tragic car crash at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 last week, has been laid to rest. At around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Malia was buried at the Eternal Garden in Lipa City, Batangas, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

The night before the funeral, for the first time, Sintia Masungsong saw the remains of her only child. Sintia could hardly contain her grief over the tragic death of her daughter. She still cannot stand on her own and had to be in a wheelchair due to the serious injuries she sustained from the accident.

Cinta and her husband Danmart clung tightly to their daughter’s casket, unwilling to let go. The burial was filled with deep sorrow. Staff from the Department of Migrant Workers and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration remained by the family’s side throughout. Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and OA Administrator Arnel Ignacio personally attended the burial.

A Mass was held at the Santo Niño Parish before Malia was brought to her final resting place at the Eternal Memorial Garden. The family continues to cry out for justice. Malia was the only child of Danmart Masungsong, an overseas Filipino worker who was scheduled to fly abroad on the day of the incident, and his wife Sintia, who was injured in the crash.

The tragedy occurred around 9:00 a.m. on May 4, when a black SUV suddenly plowed into passengers in the departure area of NAIA Terminal 1. In addition to Malia, Derek Keyo Fostino also died—he was supposed to celebrate his 30th birthday this May 29. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. immediately ordered authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, the driver’s license was suspended by the Transportation Office.

As a response, airport operator New NAIA Infra Corporation made changes to the layout of the drop-off area at Terminal 1. From the old diagonal setup used since the 1990s, it was changed to a parallel layout to help prevent similar incidents.

Many netizens shared their grief, saying that nothing compares to the pain of losing a child—especially at such a young age. In moments like these, people find themselves blaming anyone and anything, even questioning God. Why, among all the sinful people in the world, is it the innocent children who go first? But that’s the harsh reality of life—we all have our end.

To the family, especially the child’s mother, the pain is unimaginable. But little by little, you will find the strength to overcome this trial. To those like me who have also lost a child at a young age—though it hurts—we must learn to accept it. Only God can be your refuge to get through such heartbreak.

It’s devastating to bury your child on Mother’s Day itself. As a mother, the pain is unbearable. Even though I’m not your real mother, Baby Malia, I can feel the sorrow deeply, having lost a child too. But there’s nothing else we can do but accept it—for the peace of your innocent soul.

Yes, you are no longer within sight of the people who love you deeply. But as long as your parents live, baby Malia, you will never be forgotten. Every memory of you, especially the love they had for you, will remain. Baby Malia, please watch over your mommy and daddy from above.
