Two twin sisters married two twin brothers from the same village. They thought their happiness would be complete, but on their wedding night, disaster struck.

In a small village located in the middle of a lush green valley in the Batangas region, there were two famous twin families: my family and the Cruz twin family. I am Maria Santos, one of the two twin sisters of the Santos family. My sister Elena and I are as alike as two peas in a pod, from face, body shape to voice.

In the Cruz family, there are also two twin brothers – Roberto and Ricardo – who are so alike that even relatives sometimes confuse us.

Since childhood, Elena and I have been close to Roberto and Ricardo. The four of us often played together, grew up together, and our feelings gradually blossomed. I loved Roberto, and Elena loved Ricardo. Although we were alike, our personalities were different: Roberto and I were both quiet and reserved, while Elena and Ricardo were lively and cheerful.

Both sets of parents knew about our relationship and were initially worried about confusion, but seeing that we truly loved each other, they finally agreed to let us get married.

The wedding day was bustling

The wedding was held at the same time for both couples, saving costs and adding excitement. The whole village came to attend, the atmosphere was unprecedentedly bustling. Elena and I wore identical white wedding dresses, while Roberto and Ricardo wore traditional Tagalog barongs, exactly the same.

The guests looked at us and burst out laughing:
— “Diyos ko! How can we tell the bride and groom apart when they look so similar?”

During the ceremony, people kept making mistakes. Some people congratulated me and Ricardo, while others congratulated Elena and Roberto. Elena and I just laughed, while Roberto and Ricardo joked:
— “Let them guess, it’s more fun!”

Only both sets of parents could tell the difference. My father said:
— “Maria has a small mole on her neck, but Elena doesn’t. Roberto has a scar on his arm, but Ricardo doesn’t.”

But how could the guests pay attention to such small details, so the whole ceremony was in chaos.

The fateful wedding night

After a day of entertaining guests, Roberto and Ricardo were both drunk. Friends kept pouring alcohol, making them both lose their minds. Elena and I had to help our husbands into the bridal chamber.

Because the wedding was held at my house, two bridal chambers were prepared at either end of the long hallway. I helped Roberto into the room on the left, and Elena helped Ricardo into the room on the right. Before closing the door, I told her:
— “We are sisters, but don’t let the brothers get confused!”

Elena laughed:
— “Huwag kang mag-alala! Don’t worry, we know each other well!”

But then, the unfortunate thing happened. That night, both Roberto and Ricardo were so drunk that they couldn’t tell anything apart. In a daze, Roberto woke up, saw the room was dark, thought he was in the wrong room, and went to the right. Ricardo also staggered into the room on the left.

Elena and I, tired from a long day, fell asleep, completely unaware.

A chaotic morning

The next morning, I woke up and was stunned to see that the person lying next to me was not Roberto but… Ricardo! I shouted in panic:
— “Ricardo? Why are you here? Where is Roberto?”

Ricardo woke up with a start, his face pale:
— “Maria? Why is it you? I… I thought this was my room!”

At the same time, from the other room, Elena shouted loudly:
— “Roberto, why are you here? Where is Ricardo?”

The four of us rushed out into the hallway, bewildered. Elena and I looked at each other, then at Roberto and Ricardo, no one said a word.

At that moment, my parents and the Cruz parents heard the noise and ran up. My father saw the scene of four children with disheveled clothes standing in the middle of the hallway and immediately understood. His face darkened and he shouted:
— “Mga anak! What are you doing? Did you make a mistake on the wedding night?”

My mother held her head and sighed:
— “Oh my god, I told you! Twins marrying twins, it will be chaos! Now it’s good, it’s chaos on the wedding night!”

The Cruz parents were no better, their faces were purple, they couldn’t say a word.

The scar in their hearts

After the wedding night incident, the atmosphere between the two families became tense. Both parents were embarrassed and didn’t dare to look at each other. Elena and I were both angry and sad, not knowing how to face our husbands.

Roberto and Ricardo felt guilty and kept apologizing, but what had happened could not be undone. I always felt uncomfortable when I remembered Ricardo being with me that night, and Elena felt uncomfortable when she thought about Roberto. Even the twin brotherhood between Roberto and Ricardo became awkward.

The story quickly spread throughout the village, becoming a topic of discussion. Some people laughed, some sympathized. But for us, it was a valuable lesson in being careful and responsible, especially on important occasions like weddings.

Although time may fade memories, that incident will forever be a scar in the hearts of the two families of twins in our small village.

The wedding night confusion incident spread like wildfire. In the small village of Batangas, everyone knew the story of “two pairs of twins lost in the wedding room”.

In the roadside cafe, people whispered:
— “Diyos no, it’s already such a mess on the first night, what will happen later?”
— “We probably won’t know who our children belong to in the future!”

The malicious gossip gradually turned into humiliating rumors. The Santos family (Maria and Elena’s family) didn’t dare go out, and the Cruz family (Roberto and Ricardo’s family) lost face in front of their relatives and friends.

Maria’s parents were increasingly tense. Her father sighed:
— “I expected it, but I didn’t expect it to come true.”

Mother sobbed:
— “Our family’s honor is ruined. Who would dare mention these two twin daughters again?”

On the other side, Mr. and Mrs. Cruz were equally angry, even intending to take their two sons out of the village for a while to calm public opinion. But Roberto objected:
— “I love Maria, I won’t leave.”

Ricardo was also determined:
— “Elena and I have done nothing wrong, why should we hide?”

However, a distance began to appear between the two brothers. Just by meeting each other, they were both embarrassed, their eyes avoiding each other.

Maria could not shake off the memory of their wedding night. Every time she looked at Roberto, she remembered Ricardo. Meanwhile, Elena became more and more withdrawn, avoiding intimate contact with her husband, Ricardo.

One time, during a family meal, Elena burst into tears:
— “I can’t stand it anymore. Every time I look at you, I think of Maria and Roberto. Why is fate so cruel?”

Ricardo was confused, and Roberto and Maria could only bow their heads. The atmosphere in the house was stuffy and heavy.

While public opinion had not yet calmed down, disaster suddenly struck. One day, during the village festival, a group of drunken young men jeered:
— “Hey, twins marry twins! Who will sleep with the wrong person today?”

Hearing this, Roberto became angry and started a fight. Ricardo also rushed in to support his younger brother. The chaotic scene caused chaos throughout the festival. In the end, the local police had to intervene, and both brothers were taken to the headquarters.

The news spread, and this incident seemed to add fuel to the fire. The villagers whispered:
— “Not only was the wedding night chaotic, but now it has also caused trouble in the whole village. This family is a bad omen.”

After the incident, the reputation of the two families was seriously damaged. Elena and Maria’s parents argued with Cruz’s parents, blaming each other for forcing twins to marry twins.

Maria covered her face and cried:
— “If we hadn’t gotten married that day, maybe things would have been different…”

Elena was colder:
— “Maybe this is a curse. We can never live normally.”

As for Roberto and Ricardo, from being brothers who were inseparable, they now started to blame each other, and didn’t even want to sit at the same table anymore.

One rainy evening, Maria sat by the window, looking out at the empty yard. She wondered:
— “Has our happiness been broken since the first night? Or is there still a way to save it?”

Meanwhile, outside, the villagers were still whispering, and a new storm was waiting to strike.
