MARRIED FOR 3 YEARS WITHOUT CHILDREN, MOTHER-IN-LAW BRINGS HER PREGNANT LOVER HOME TO TAKE CARE OF HER. I GIVE A PIECE OF PAPER THAT MAKES THE WHOLE FAMILY FALL OUT

Miguel and I have been married for three years, our love is still strong but the joy of being parents has yet to come. My mother-in-law – a traditional woman in Quezon City – always attaches great importance to continuing the family line. At every meal, she insinuates that I am “useless”, “hindi marunong manganak”, despite Miguel’s efforts to protect me. Those words are like knives stabbing my heart, making me lower my head to eat in tears.

The climax was one rainy afternoon, my mother-in-law brought home a girl with a big belly, named Marites. She calmly declared:

“Ito si Marites, from now on she will live here. She is carrying the blood of Miguel – the eldest grandson of this family.”

Miguel was stunned, and I was speechless. The whole world seemed to collapse before my eyes. My mother-in-law asked me to accept, to treat Marites as my sister and to take care of that “precious fetus”. Miguel looked at me with a guilty gaze, but did not have the courage to oppose his mother.

I could not bear that humiliation. Living under the same roof with the woman who had taken away my happiness, and having to watch her pregnant with my husband’s child – it was beyond my imagination. That night, I packed a few clothes, left my wedding ring on the table and quietly left. Tears streaming down my face, I told myself to forget everything and start a new life.

A year later…

My life had completely changed. I found a new job in Makati, bought a small apartment, and most importantly, I was pregnant with a little baby.

Fate brought us together again. That day, when I entered a familiar coffee shop in Greenbelt, I saw my mother-in-law and Miguel sitting there. They looked much more haggard.

I walked in, my belly was already bigger than my face.

My mother-in-law saw me, her eyes were so surprised that her mouth was wide open. She stammered:

“Anak… anak… your belly…”

Miguel looked at me, his eyes complicated, both regretful and surprised.

I just smiled – a smile of relief and victory. Without saying a word, I put a piece of paper on the table.

It was the DNA test results of Miguel and the baby in Marites’s womb. My mother-in-law and Miguel trembled as they took the paper. The cold words:

“Parent-child relationship: NO.”

The child was not Miguel’s.

I pulled out the second piece of paper – the test results from two years ago at a hospital in Manila:

“Conclusion: Abnormal sperm, unable to conceive naturally.”

The doctor had diagnosed Miguel as infertile. I kept this secret, not wanting him to worry.

My mother-in-law and Miguel looked at the two pieces of paper, their hands shaking, their eyes filled with tears. My mother-in-law collapsed on the chair, while Miguel put his head on the table, his face pale.

They had judged me, abandoned me, because of a truth they themselves did not know.

As for me, I was now carrying an angel – the blood of the man who had loved me unconditionally for the past year. I turned and walked away, leaving behind the people who used to be my family, but who had also been the greatest pain in my life.

Part 2: A Late Forgiveness

I thought that after that day at the Greenbelt Coffee Shop, everything was over. I had resolutely turned my back, choosing a new path for myself, with the man who truly loved me and the child that was forming in my belly. But fate seemed to have not yet closed.

An Unexpected Meeting in Front of My Door

One afternoon, when I had just finished work in Makati and returned to my small apartment, I suddenly heard a knock on the door. Opening the door, I saw my mother-in-law – her face was haggard, her hair was noticeably gray, and Miguel – the man who used to be my husband, now haggard, with tired eyes.

She trembled, suddenly kneeling right in front of my door, tears streaming down her face:

“Anak… patawarin mo ako. I was too cruel, treating you like a stranger. Now I understand, the useless person is not you, but me – a mother who only knows how to impose and make the family suffer.”

Miguel took a step forward, his voice hoarse:
“You… give me a chance to make amends. I am no longer worthy of being your husband, but please allow me to see the child, even if it is not my blood. I have lived in torment for the past year.”

The old pain came back

I stood still. In an instant, my heart was in turmoil. So many old images came back: the meals in tears, the humiliation, the rainy night when I carried my suitcase and left that house in despair.

I put my hand on my belly, where the little baby was moving. I knew I could not be soft-hearted anymore.

Face it straight

I calmly looked at them, my voice resolute:
“Mom, Miguel… I don’t hold grudges anymore. I’ve forgiven you for a long time, but forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting. What you and Miguel did to me – that’s a lifelong scar. Now I have a new family, someone who truly loves me and this child. I no longer have room for those who once crushed me.”

My mother-in-law cried, clutching my leg tightly:
“Anak, let me take care of you when you give birth. Please let me make it right, I beg you!”

Miguel was in tears, his hands trembling:
“I know I was wrong. I lost you – the only person who was ever truly by my side. Just let me stand from afar, just to see you happy.”

The final choice

I took a deep breath, then gently removed my mother-in-law’s hand. My voice was firm but no longer resentful:

“Mom, Miguel… I hope you two live in peace. But my life, from now on, will no longer be tied to you two. I have gone through the pain, and now I only move forward. Let me decide my own happiness.”

I closed the door. Outside, sobbing still echoed in the apartment hallway. But inside, my apartment was warm, filled with golden light. I knew I was truly free.
