Angelica Panganiban is retiring from teleseryes.
The 33-year-old actress, who began appearing on regular TV programs in the late 90s, said that her forthcoming drama, “Walang Hanggang Paalam,” which stars her with Paulo Avelino, Zanjoe Marudo, and Arci Munoz, will be her final one.
“Masaya ako at ang nakasama ko sa project na ito ay ang grupong ito dahil gusto ko na magpaalam sa larangan ng teleserye,” she announced in a press conference for her new show, held online this Friday.
Panganiban did not specify a reason, other than that a vague statement on realizations. “Dito ako nakapag-decide kung ano talaga iyong mahalaga sa buhay,” she added
She also made sure to clarify that her decision does not mean that she will be leaving ABS-CBN. “But maybe this is the only job I will do when it comes to soap operas,” she added.
She ended her announcement by promising her fans to make them proud and that she hopes to leave on a high note with “Walang Hanaggang Paalam,”
You can check out her announcement in the 1:43:19 mark of the video below: Panganiban has been acting since she was a child, gaining acclaim with movies such as “Separada” and “Sarah… Ang Munting Prinsesa.” She first appeared in a TV drama in 1995’s “Familia Zaragoza.”
Her first regular TV projects were “Ang TV” and “G-mik.”
“Walang Hanggang Paalam” will premiere this Monday, September 28. It’ll be available online via Kapamilya Online Live and iWant-TFC.
Her announcement followed the launch of her podcast show, “Ask Angelica,” which will feature her listening to viewers’ woes and problems during this pandemic. It’ll have celebrity guests.
Why Angelica Panganiban decided to retire from doing teleseryes
“Of course, I had a love life ‘so I guess I can enjoy this first.”Angelica is firm about her decision to retire from doing teleseryes.
Since 1995, the year she was cast in the weekly drama Familia Zaragoza, she has starred in about 23 series.
In her interview with Boy Abunda on YouTube uploaded last December 1, Angelica underlined, “I really want to stand up” even though it’s “still difficult.”
She elaborated, “There’s a different direction that Angge [Angelica’s nickname] wants to take now, there’s a different direction that she wants to take.
“I won’t see that happening if I’m still so involved in making teleseryes.”
Angelica began mulling over this since doing Playhouse in 2018.
She recalled, “I told my mom. I said, ‘Mom, ‘I’m done with the teleserye, I don’t want to anymore.’
“Then, of course, she didn’t understand. ‘Why are you depressed? Are you going through something?’
“[I replied], ‘Do you have to be depressed? Can’t I?’”
But in the course of the pandemic and ABS-CBN shutdown, the network offered her to do Walang Hanggang Paalam, the series that aired from September 2020 to April 2021.
She continued, “Then, ABS took a chance when they offered me Walang Hanggang Paalam. It happened to be a pandemic, there was no franchise.
“So it was like, ‘Wow, who am I to refuse work?’ Those people who could earn money when I accepted this project, okay, challenge accepted, game.”
However, it further convinced Angelica to stop doing teleseryes.
“But when I started making him Tito Boy, that’s when I realized, ‘Okay. I’m okay.’
“You’re tired, locked in, you’ve been in a bubble for half a year, it seems okay, it’s really okay.
“Then, of course, you fell in love ‘and then it seemed like I could enjoy it.”
In July 2021, Angelica celebrated her first anniversary with boyfriend Gregg Homan.
But who knows she might change her mind in the future, especially if “it’s necessary.”
She said, “That’s the thing, Tito Boy, I told Sir Carlo [Katigbak, ABS-CBN President] and Tita Cory [Vidanes, chief operating officer for broadcast], but when it’s needed, it’s needed and then they know it’s needed. Some of the remarkable teleseryes that Angelica had done in the past were: Mangarap Ka (2004), Vietnam Rose (2005), Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik (2008), Iisa Pa Lamang (2008), Rubi (2010), Apoy sa Dagat (2013), Pangako Sa ‘Yo (2015), Playhouse (2018), and Walang Hanggang Paalam (2020).
Angelica is set to do a new series on iWant titled The Goodbye Girl in 2022.
