Dr. Willie Ong Reveals His Current Health Status Amid Ongoing Treatment in Singapore
Renowned Filipino public health advocate and former senatorial candidate Dr. Willie Ong has opened up about his current medical journey, as he continues undergoing treatment in Singapore. The beloved doctor, known for his helpful medical videos and compassionate approach, surprised his followers by sharing a candid health update, sparking concern and prayers across social media.
In a heartfelt post, Dr. Ong revealed that he has been receiving specialized treatment in Singapore for an undisclosed medical condition. Although he chose to keep specific details private, he emphasized that the decision to seek medical care abroad was due to the complexity of his illness and the need for advanced facilities.
“I’m doing my best to stay strong, not just for myself but for those who continue to look up to me for guidance. I ask for your prayers and understanding as I go through this difficult chapter in my life,” Dr. Ong wrote.
Sources close to the Ong family revealed that the doctor had been silently dealing with health issues for several months before finally deciding to undergo more intensive treatment overseas. His wife, Dr. Liza Ong, has been by his side every step of the way, offering support and helping manage his online presence in the meantime.
Despite his physical condition, Dr. Ong remains mentally strong and emotionally resilient.
“My spirit is unshaken,” he added. “Even while in treatment, I’m still thinking of ways to help educate the public. This is my life’s mission.”
Messages of encouragement and concern flooded his social media pages shortly after the announcement. Celebrities, fellow doctors, politicians, and countless ordinary citizens expressed admiration for his courage and selflessness.
One comment read:
“You’ve helped millions of Filipinos through your advice, Doc. Now it’s our turn to pray for your healing.”
As of now, Dr. Ong continues to undergo regular check-ups and treatments at a top-tier medical facility in Singapore. While no exact timeline for his full recovery has been disclosed, supporters remain hopeful and inspired by his unwavering determination.
His closing words in the update struck a powerful chord:
“If I’ve taught anything in all these years, it’s that health is the most precious thing. Please take care of yourselves—and thank you for taking care of me now.”
The public awaits further updates from Dr. Ong, as the nation rallies behind one of its most trusted medical voices during this challenging time.
Doc Willie Ong feels guilty about getting treatment abroad
Even though he is battling cancer, Doc Willie Ong still thinks about the plight of other Filipinos who are similarly seriously ill. He admitted that he feels “guilty” about getting treatment abroad while many Filipino patients suffer from the poor health care system in the Philippines.
In the previous episode of “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” Jessica interviewed Doc Willie, who went bald before undergoing chemotherapy in Singapore for his sarcoma cancer.
In their recorded video that he posted on social media recently, Doc Willie shared that a 16-centimeter mass was found behind his heart that was causing him severe pain.
The doctor, who is also a vlogger, admitted that the doctor gave him a 50-50 cancer prognosis.
“Fifty percent to live a few more months, a year. Fifty percent, anytime, maybe I won’t be able to breathe. It’s like there’s no certainty,” according to Doc Willie.
According to Doc Winnie, he has difficulty swallowing because his esophagus is blocked by a tumor.
“I got the worst pain. It’s 10 out of 10, Jessica. Doc Liza [his wife] and I didn’t sleep all night. I screamed. You’re really screaming from the pain,” he recounted.
In extreme pain, Doc Willie said it was OK for him to take Dormicum, “to sleep it off and die.”
Now, the nicknamed “Doctor of the People,” says that every day he opens his eyes is a blessing.
He also no longer worries about what will happen in the future, or thinks about material things or success, because all he has in mind is what will happen in the present.
Doc Willie is receiving treatment in Singapore, where he greatly admires the system when it comes to treating patients.
He said that he could have died if he had stayed in the Philippines because of the slow healthcare system and the slow processing of laboratory tests.
“I said, if the politicians are coming here, don’t you feel sorry for our countrymen? Whether you are rich or poor, you are trapped in the Philippines. I think it is God’s will,” he said.
According to Doc Willie, the biopsy results in Singapore are known immediately. Compared to the Philippines, which takes one or two weeks. Within two days, his PET scan, CT scan, 2D Echo, biopsy were completed, and he was immediately given chemotherapy, which is one of the ways to fight cancer cells.
“In the Philippines, I have to wait one to weeks. The Philippines is weak, even Doc Willie Ong, you are still dead. What if you are Juan dela Cruz? That’s why I feel guilty,” he explained.
Sarcoma cancer is said to be a rare type of cancer that develops in the bones and soft tissues of the human body.
Among the treatments for his sarcoma cancer are chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. But the patient’s recovery depends on the type of cancer, the patient’s age, and which part of the body it has grown in.
According to Doc Willie, he is ready for whatever the doctors tell him, “‘If they say there is no hope, it’s not over, that’s it, pansit.”
She called me, ‘Willie Boy come to me.’ Parang sabi ng nanay ko ‘You’ve done your job on earth. Ginawa mo nang 60 years. 25 years na akong walang bayad ang pasyente ni isa. Pharma company ni isa hindi nalalagyan. Wala akong foreign trips,” sabi niya.
Sa Oktubre 9, muling sasailalim si Doc Willie sa PET scan, kasabay nito, inihayag niya ang paborito niyang awitin na, “God help the outcasts, children of God. That’s my song.”
