Charo revealed that Jim once called her “heartless.”

She was assigned to tell Jim and his co-host Gel Santos that their TV show “Tatak Pilipino” in the 80s, which although award-winning, had low ratings, would be canceled.

“I was assigned as a programming director to talk to the hosts and say that the program needed to be ended. I met with Jim and Gel and told them the reasons behind it, they accepted it,” said Charo. Charo thought everything was fine, but when the APO Hiking Society had a team building, Jim told Charo that she had been “heartless” in saying that the show would be ended.

It just so happened to be Jim’s birthday when Charo told him what was going to happen to Tatak Pilipino.

“Jim suddenly blurted out, ‘You know, Charo, you’re so heartless.’ I was shocked– like, huh? I mean why? Why are you saying, that what did I do?’ He said, ‘You couldn’t even wait. You know, when you canceled ‘Tatak Pilipino,’ it was my birthday.’”

“Oh my God, I melted with shame, I said sorry many times,” Charo shared.

Charo said she learned something from the aforementioned incident, and thanked Jim for it.

“I realized that actors, talents are not just a cog in the showbiz machine, they are persons who get hurt. I taught that to all my mentors afterward–I took note of all the birthdays of all our talents. And from then on, we never canceled a program on any of their birthdays,” he said.
