Veteran star Pilar Pilapil disagrees with fellow former beauty queen and veteran actress Gloria Diaz’s statement that, “99% of beauty is youth.”

Pilar Pilapil believes that true beauty is like wine – that it gets better with age.

In a recent interview with Pilar Pilapil by Boy Abunda on his Fast Talk with Boy Abunda program, he asked the veteran actress if she still agrees with Gloria Diaz’s beliefs about beauty.

According to Pilar Pilapil, she disagrees with Gloria Diaz because for her, beauty is like wine that needs to age.

“I don’t, I’m sorry. Beauty to me is something that needs to age like wine,” she said.

She further explained, “I remember those pictures that I had when I was very young, and I didn’t look as…this is my opinion, I look better when I was already older. Not when I was very young, definitely.”

Pilar Pilapil also believes that one of the things that shapes the beauty of women is the trials they go through in life.

“Because in the first place you go through many, many stages in your life as a young person. You go through, for instance, a heartbrokenness, you go through so many problems and struggles in life. It takes time to be happy. So when you are happy, that’s when you become beautiful,” she explained.

Pillar Pilapil also recalled what happened to her when she competed in Miss Universe 1967 in Miami Florida at the age of 16 years old when American media personality Bob Barker asked her, “Are you really 18?”

“I remember that. I said, ‘What do you think?’ And he smiled and then I went.”

Pilar Pilapil also revealed that she didn’t really aspire to be Miss Universe at that time because for her, she was too young.

“I wasn’t thinking of that. I wasn’t really a full-grown woman. I was just a kid. I was a young girl.”

“I was surrounded by beautiful women and some gentlemen that were eyeing us around. it was quite an experience but as a young girl, it was quite overwhelming,” Pilar Pilapil admitted.

It will be recalled that Pilar Pilapil won Binibining Pilipinas Universe 1967 while Gloria Diaz was crowned Miss Universe in 1969.
