Sharon Cuneta cries over fake news against Kiko
Megastar Sharon Cuneta cried several times when she and her husband Kiko Pangilinan appeared before members of the entertainment media yesterday, May 6.

People at Valencia Events Place in Quezon City could feel the pain Sharon feels because of the slander and insults being leveled at her husband, especially on social media.

Atty. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan is running for senator again for the midterm elections that will take place this coming Monday, May 12.

Yesterday, Mega and Kiko appeared together at a press conference organized by Regal Entertainment producers Roselle Monteverde and Keith Monteverde in support of the former senator’s candidacy. Sharon immediately burst into tears as she thanked Roselle and Keith, as well as the late Regal matriarch Mother Lily.

Mega says she is very grateful to Mother Lily because at a time when she was too big and no one was giving her acting projects, Regal offered her a movie.

In addition, Mother Lily has always supported Kiko’s every foray into politics.

Following this, Sharon also tearfully defended her husband from the criticism and denial of several groups and individuals for his re-entering public service.

According to the showbiz icon, their biggest enemy right now is the rampant spread of fake news and misinformation to the public.

“I never liked politics because, in the Philippines, no matter how good your intentions are, no matter how well-organized your heart is, you lose to fake news and other candidates with billions in budgets that we don’t have.

“Everything we have, we both worked hard for,” Sharon said bitterly as she wiped away tears.

She continued, “Why don’t you want to vote for Kiko? What are your doubts? Because all the lies that are being spread against him, we have a receipt for it.

“We have someone who will refute the accusations they make, the slander they slander.

“Maybe, as his wife and the mother of his children, it’s our pride, because of our sensible personalities. Nobody is perfect, right, especially in showbiz, my God!

“But we came from a good background, our parents raised us well.

“I am very blessed because I was given a husband who will not hurt me and will be a good father. You know, Kiko doesn’t have a lot but everything he has, he gives to us.

“This is also his heart for the country, because we don’t get rich, eh, in politics. He served for over two decades. We didn’t advance. We still work.

“At 59, I still work because my husband still works because we think of our children. Everything we have has come from honest hard work,” Sharon said emotionally.

Anyway, Kiko is also thankful that his survey results are high and he is always in the top 12.

The couple is also grateful to the many celebrities who voluntarily support Kiko’s candidacy.

There were Vice Ganda, Iza Calzado, Darren Espanto, Enchong Dee, Ogie and Regine Alcasid, Anne Curtis, Janine Gutierrez, Maja Salvador, Jolina Magdangal, Parokya ni Edgar, Robi Domingo, Nadine Lustre, Ryan Agoncillo, Judy Ann Santos and many others.

Meanwhile, according to Roselle Monteverde, when her mother, Mother Lily, was still alive, she was always very supportive of Kiko’s candidacy.

“My mom has been an advocate for giving good governance for our country. As children of Mother, we just want to continue the legacy that she left us because she loves this country a lot.

“He also loves the showbiz industry. He also loves all of you. We’re here to support Kiko because we believe in him,” Miss Roselle said.
