Even though San Juan City councilor and basketball player James Yap and his son Bimby Aquino Yap haven’t seen each other for 10 years, they say they are on good terms now.
Bimby is James’ son with ex-wife Kris Aquino.
James said there is no problem with Kris because the former TV host himself said he doesn’t want his son Bimby to be like his childhood, who grew up without his father.
He said the son is willing to rebuild his relationship with his father James, even though “they have been through a lot and have had many misunderstandings.” Kris is the one who is in charge of him and James.
Kris said, “I don’t want to say that I’m stopping Bimby… my own childhood was fatherless because of Martial Law so why’d I subject my youngest to the same fate?”
Kris also said that Bimby was only eight years old at the time when she knew that he could make decisions for his own life.
When Bimby was 16, he reportedly told his son that if anyone wanted to make peace, he would give it to him.
Bimby was said to have taken the first step, which is why Kris is proud of his youngest son.
Bimby and James were last seen together at the funeral of former President Noynoy Aquino at the Manila Memorial Park on June 26, 2021, but James was reportedly unable to get close to his son.
Kris and James got married in 2005 and divorced in 2012.
Kris got sick, so they stayed in America for a few years. But now that they are back in the Philippines, James hopes that they and their father will be closer.
