In a moment both deeply emotional and humbling, award-winning actress Judy Ann Santos found herself taken aback when she was unexpectedly compared to — and even referred to as — the “Next Superstar” following the passing of Philippine cinema legend Nora Aunor.

The actress, known for her powerhouse performances and enduring legacy in both film and television, responded with disbelief and emotion as tributes for the late Nora Aunor continue to pour in across the nation.

“I’m Not Worthy” — Judy Ann’s Humble Response

Judy Ann, speaking to the media after attending a private tribute for the National Artist, was visibly moved and caught off guard when a veteran entertainment columnist introduced her with the words:

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Superstar lives on through Judy Ann Santos.”

With wide eyes and hands to her heart, Judy Ann immediately reacted:

“Grabe po ‘yon… I don’t deserve that title. No one can ever replace Ate Guy. No one.”

She continued:

“I grew up watching her. I learned so much from her without even meeting her yet at the time. When I finally did, I felt like I was in front of a goddess — humble, real, and full of wisdom.”

Netizens: “Kung may karapat-dapat, si Juday ‘yon!”

Online, the moment quickly went viral. Fans flooded social media with support and agreement:

“If anyone deserves the honor of carrying the torch, it’s Judy Ann Santos. She’s always been grounded, versatile, and timeless — just like Ate Guy.”

“She didn’t claim the title, but that’s exactly why she deserves it.”

Others, however, expressed that the title “Superstar” should forever be Nora’s alone — a once-in-a-lifetime status earned through decades of cultural impact.

A Legacy Passed, Not Replaced

Industry veterans shared the sentiment that no one can replace Nora Aunor — but that her influence lives on in actresses like Judy Ann Santos, who have carried the same integrity and passion for storytelling.

Director Laurice Guillen shared in an interview:

“Judy Ann isn’t a copy of Nora — she’s a continuation of what Nora stood for: truth, excellence, and depth in acting. And she’s proven that time and time again.”

Juday’s Final Words: “Ate Guy, Salamat”

Before leaving the tribute event, Judy Ann made sure to leave a final message for her idol, looking up with tears in her eyes:

“Ate Guy, thank you. Thank you for existing. Thank you for teaching all of us how to act with our soul. I will carry your lessons forever — but no, I can never be you.”

As the industry continues to mourn the passing of Nora Aunor, moments like these remind us of the enormous legacy she left behind — one that inspires even the most celebrated artists of today.
