Manila, Philippines – In a jaw-dropping moment that left senators, media, and netizens stunned, Diamond Star Maricel Soriano finally came forward and addressed her rumored issue with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during a highly anticipated Senate inquiry.

The revelation was unexpected, emotional, and politically charged, as the veteran actress, known for her decades-long contributions to Philippine cinema, took the stand with poise and honesty, unafraid to speak her truth.

A Testimony That Shocked the Room

Appearing as a surprise guest during a Senate hearing tied to cultural and political influence in the entertainment industry, Soriano was asked directly about rumors that had been circulating online for months—that she had been placed on a silent blacklist by certain political figures, and that her once-private rift with the President was rooted in personal principles.

With a deep sigh, Maricel confirmed the issue for the first time publicly.

“I have nothing to hide. I’ve kept silent out of respect, but now that I’m being asked directly, yes—there were tensions. And it stemmed from values I refused to compromise,” she stated, earning murmurs across the chamber.

What Was the Conflict About?

While Maricel did not dive into every detail, she hinted that the disagreement involved a project she declined, one allegedly linked to a pro-administration campaign. Soriano emphasized that her refusal was not personal but rooted in her belief in creative freedom and integrity.

“It’s never been about politics. It’s about standing for what I believe is right—as an artist, as a Filipino, and as a woman,” she added, her voice firm.

Reactions Pour In: Public Divided

The revelation quickly went viral, sparking a frenzy online. Some hailed Soriano as brave and principled, while others criticized her for dragging a national figure into what they claimed was a personal decision.

“Maricel has always spoken her mind. That’s what made her legendary,” tweeted one supporter.
“She should’ve handled it privately. You don’t bring the President into your drama,” argued another.

Malacañang Yet to Issue a Statement

As of this writing, President Marcos Jr. and his communications team have not responded to Maricel’s statements. Political insiders, however, suggest that the Palace may opt to stay quiet and avoid fanning the flames of controversy.

A Star That Won’t Be Silenced

If one thing is clear, it’s that Maricel Soriano remains unshaken, even when facing the highest halls of government. Her appearance in the Senate has not only reignited national conversations around artistic freedom, but also revealed the simmering tensions between politics and entertainment in the Philippines.

“I am not here to create division. I’m here because truth matters,” she said before leaving the room—to a mix of stunned silence and thunderous applause.

Senate is doing a kind of abuse to President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and actress Maricel Soriano – Political Analyst
The Senate is doing a kind of abuse to President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and actress Maricel Soriano.

This was emphasized by Atty. Michael Henry Yusingco, Political Analyst, regarding the involvement of their names in illegal drugs, based on the alleged leaked document in 2012.

According to Yusingco, in fact, this is no longer the job of the Senate because the Senate’s only job is to respond to the amendment of the law and not to investigate or point out who is guilty.

In fact, he said, the police force and the Department of National Defense should have the obligation on the said issue but why do senators seem to be abusing their power.

In line with this, Yusingco previously said that it is unfortunate what is happening in the government now because ultimately the ombudsman or independent institutional bodies are not fulfilling their obligations but are instead following some political orders.

Meanwhile, the president called former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) investigation agent Jonathan Morales a “professional liar” on the said issue
