The emotional mourning period for the late Superstar Nora Aunor is still not over. Amidst the mourning, an unexpected scene took center stage: her son Matet De Leon, who according to reports and stories from fans, was forced to do something he didn’t want to do — but in the end, he also listened to the voices of those who loved and admired his mother.
On the third day of Nora Aunor’s funeral, a group of loyal fans gathered in front of the funeral home, holding flowers, candles, and old memorabilia of the Superstar. But more than symbolic offerings, they had one request: ask Matet to speak in front of everyone to pay tribute to Ate Guy, and to recount the memories of his mother and him to the public.
According to eyewitnesses, Matet shook his head several times. The hesitation on her face was obvious — perhaps due to the weight of emotion or a personal wound that had not yet fully healed. But in the end, because of the encouraging voices of her fans and the support of her siblings, she approached the microphone.
And that’s when the scene began that brought tears to everyone’s eyes.
“If it weren’t for those of you who loved her, I might not have been able to do this,” Matet began, her voice trembling. “We haven’t seen each other properly for many years, there have been many misunderstandings, but in the end, she is still my mother. And no one can take away that truth.”
The fans applauded while some cried uncontrollably. Her words became a bridge — not just of emotion but of reconciliation. A scene of healing.
Many said it was the most honest and heartfelt tribute they had heard on the entire hill. According to a longtime fan of Nora, “Matet and she have been through so much, but now that Matet has chosen to speak out — it’s as if the family has been reunited in the presence of the Queen’s funeral.”
To this day, the feelings of farewell remain, but thanks to Matet, another piece of Nora Aunor’s heart has been passed on — not just to her children, but to the entire Filipino people who continue to mourn and be grateful.
Matet De Leon, has an answer to Noranians who say he is not indebted, he is old
The issue stems from the alleged imitation of the Superstar in his gourmet tinapa and tuyo business, something that Matet did not like.
According to Matet’s IG post where the comment section is closed, “Would you do this to your children? HONOR THY FATHER AND MOTHER. HOW? How can I do that now? Ay, I AM AN ADOPTION.”
“One night, I was told to just resell my mother’s products. We are struggling with sales. Why all of a sudden, I was just surprised, my mother released a direct competitor to my product.”
“She knows I have a product like that.. I have a lot of tapings. What do you think I should do now? What is good to do? If you have children, WOULD YOU DO THIS TO YOUR CHILDREN?” Matet went live on his YouTube channel on Sunday night, December 4, to explain his side of his rant post.
Matet said he was really surprised that his mother approved of his business. He said he didn’t expect that he would be able to compete with Superstar. He said he was sent a photo of Ate Guy’s new gourmet tinapa and tuyo business on Messenger, and his first reaction was that he immediately felt bad. He even hyperventilated.
Matet clarified that he was not sure if Nora herself made the decision or someone close to her, who was revealed to be her partner, John Rendez.
Matet has not yet posted his rant on Instagram. He first called his brothers Lotlot De Leon and Ian De Leon to consult them on what to do.
Until Matet was forced to vent his frustration on social media when details of how to buy Ate Guy’s product started to surface on a social media page. When an acquaintance asked Nora why she and Matet had the same product, she said that the actress already knew about her mother’s plan.
This is where Matet became angry, admitting that she had been diagnosed with “bipolar disorder”.
His brother “Kenneth” also allegedly told him to just resell Ate Guy’s product, something Matet could not accept.
“This. My brother Kenneth, are you my brother? You’re an idiot. That’s crazy, eh. Well, he’s not my brother because he’s just adopted. They said, if Mommy wants to do business, I’ll just leave him alone. I’ll just resell Mommy’s product and we’ll work together.”
Matet’s point is, she and her husband Mickey Estrada were the first to start gourmet tinapa and gourmet tuyo, so why would they be told to just resell?
“How do I feel about it? I feel very sad. I feel betrayed. I feel like a Trinidadian. I feel like… seriously, I feel like an adopted child right now, guys. The power of adoption is what they did. The power of adoption, I can feel it when I’m adopted. No one would do this to their child. So, this means, they don’t really treat me like a child. They wouldn’t do this if they loved us, I just realized it now,” Matet’s emotional statement.
He said he thought the rift between him and his mother would never be resolved, because it seemed to be deep-rooted and rooted in the past.
“It seems impossible, because I don’t know how you can do that to your child? We are siblings, we are going through a very difficult time. My sister, my brother, just keep doing it. When Mommy does something wrong, then we resist, you say we are worthless. What is it? What do you want us to do here? I don’t understand.”
“It’s like we are tied up, like we are gagged and you are slapping us all over. We are tied up, we can’t do anything, we are gagged, we can’t say anything, you are slapping us all over, we are worthless, adopted children.”
Because of this, Matet allegedly blocked his mother on social media.
The Noranians also criticized Matet, but the character actress reportedly had an answer to those who say she is just riding on the popularity of her mother Superstar, which Cristy Fermin and Romel Chika discussed on “Cristy Ferminute”.
“Matet De Leon is still not ignored by bashers today, especially by fans of her mother Nora Aunor,” Cristy said. She is said to have been told that she has stopped, is ungrateful, and is outdated.
“Of course, Matet is not going to be a hit, replied Romel Chika.
“Supporting stars are not outdated, only the lead actors,” Matet told the Noranians.
“Oh, right, there’s a bite to it, a pinch to it, a slap to it…” Cristy commented.
Cristy wishes that things like this would end because no matter what court you look at, there is a reason why Matet is angry after his own mother even opposed the product they were selling. Meanwhile, Nora Aunor’s camp has not yet responded, reacted, or made a statement regarding the issue, as have the aforementioned personalities in her live broadcast.
