I GOT A BABIES SO EARLY THAT MOM WAS ANGRY
I am the eldest, sir McCoy. I was always expected to do everything, take care of my siblings, clean the house, take care of mom and dad. I didn’t mind because I loved my family.
But everything changed when I got pregnant early. I didn’t finish school. Mom was very angry at that time. Her words hurt almost every day. It felt like I had no value to her anymore. I felt like no matter what I did, it was still wrong in her eyes.
That’s when she distanced herself from me. She couldn’t talk to me properly anymore, she couldn’t even look me in the eye sometimes. It hurt, because she was the one I expected to understand me first.
Years passed. While I was raising my son, I tried to get up even though it was not enough. I looked for a way to earn money, to feed my son. Meanwhile, my siblings had studied, graduated, and got married one by one.
Until they left mom and dad with me. I was the one who took care of them. I was the one who took care of them every day. I, who was once rejected and hurt, was also the one who would never leave their side.
As mom got older, she gradually softened. Sometimes she would suddenly say, “Son, I’m sorry. I was blinded by anger. I never thought that you would not leave me.”
I cried then. I had so many grievances but they all melted away in one hug from her. In the end, even though the past was painful, I couldn’t help but love her.
Until she weakened and I was by her side, she finally admitted, “Son, forgive mom. I didn’t see how strong you were right away.”
And that’s when I felt all my sacrifices, not in vain.
A mother makes mistakes, but a child’s heart, even when wounded, is still able to forgive. And in the end, love and concern prevail.
After a few months, my mother gradually weakened. She often sat on a wooden chair on the terrace, looking at her siblings, who she used to be proud of. But now that she is old, I am the only one left.
One night, while I was handing her medicine, she gently held my hand. I felt her fingers tremble, I also felt the weight of the words she slowly uttered:
– “Son… I may never be able to make up for all the pain I have caused. But I know, I will never forget that you were my strength until the end.”
My grip on her tightened. I could not stop crying. All the nights of crying, all the years of silence, all the wounds in my heart – it was as if they suddenly lightened.
After a few weeks, she completely surrendered to the fight of her body. And I, I was the last to hold her hand. I was the last to hear her weak voice whispering “Thank you, son.”
After the funeral, my siblings arrived. They cried, hugged each other, and they all said:
– “Sister, you were mom’s true support. I’m sorry, we didn’t see you before.”
I didn’t know how to answer. I just nodded and smiled through my tears.
That’s when I felt: sometimes, you don’t get recognition right away, but the time will come when the truth will come out. That the child who was once scolded, rejected, and judged – he turned out to be the child who matters most.
Now, as my child grows up, I promise myself: I will never let him experience the words that broke my heart before. Because I’ve learned in this life, a wound from a parent’s words lasts forever, but a hug and understanding can heal.
And if I have a lesson to learn, it is this: A mother makes mistakes, but a child – when loved even when wounded – becomes the strongest pillar of the family.
