In the wake of the nation mourning the loss of the legendary Nora Aunor, her family continues to cope with grief in deeply personal ways. Among the most touching moments came from Matet De Leon, one of Aunor’s beloved children, who revealed she was deeply surprised by what her eldest child did shortly after the Superstar’s burial.
A Moment of Grief Turns Into Something Unforgettable
According to Matet, after the final rites and as mourners began to leave the cemetery, her eldest child quietly stepped away, only to return holding something unexpected — a handwritten letter, sealed with care, meant for “Lola Nora.”
“I didn’t expect it. We were all grieving, exhausted, and then I saw my child kneel in front of Lola’s tomb and gently place the letter there,” Matet shared in a media interview, her voice shaking with emotion.
“I had no idea they had written anything. I broke down when I saw it.”
A Letter Full of Love
The letter, which Matet later read aloud in private, reportedly contained a heartfelt message filled with gratitude, admiration, and memories shared with the iconic grandmother. The young writer expressed how proud they were to be part of her legacy, even referring to her as “the strongest woman I know.”
“It reminded me that Nora’s legacy goes beyond film and fame — she impacted her family deeply, especially the younger generation,” Matet said.
Fans and Netizens React
Once Matet’s story went public, fans flooded social media with support and admiration for the gesture.
“Even in silence, the younger generation is paying tribute to the Superstar in the most beautiful ways,” one netizen commented.
“That letter will live forever in the hearts of fans,” another added.
While the country lost a cultural icon, Matet De Leon’s revelation reminds us that for one family, Nora Aunor was more than a legend — she was ‘Lola’, and her memory lives on through love, handwritten letters, and the quiet strength of her grandchildren.
Matet De Leon, has an answer to Noranians who say she is not indebted, she is old
“Noranians” or fans of Superstar Nora Aunor did not ignore her daughter Matet De Leon, after her tirades against her mother.
The issue stemmed from the Superstar’s alleged imitation of her gourmet tinapa and tuyo business, something that Matet did not like.
According to Matet’s IG post where the comment section is closed, “Would you do this to your children? HONOR THY FATHER AND MOTHER. HOW? How can I do that now? Ay, I AM AN ADOPTED.”
“One night, I was told to just resell my mother’s products. We are struggling with sales. Why all of a sudden, I was just surprised, my mother released a direct competitor to my product.”
She knew I had a product like that.. She said I have a lot of tapings. What do you think I should do now? What is a good thing to do? If you have children, WOULD YOU DO THIS TO YOUR CHILDREN?”
On his YouTube channel, Matet went live on Sunday night, December 4, to explain his side of his rant post.
Matet said he was really surprised that his mother had taken his business seriously. He said he didn’t expect that he would be able to compete with the Superstar. He said that he was sent a photo of Ate Guy’s new gourmet tinapa and tuyo business on Messenger, and his first reaction was that he immediately felt bad. He even hyperventilated.
Matet clarified that he was not sure if Nora herself made this decision or someone close to her, who was revealed to be her partner, John Rendez.
Matet said he had not yet posted his rant on Instagram. He first called his brothers Lotlot De Leon and Ian De Leon to consult them on what to do.
Until Matet was forced to vent his frustration on social media when details of how to buy Ate Guy’s product were leaked on a social media page. When an acquaintance asked Nora why she was using the same product as Matet, she was told that the actress already knew about her mother’s plan.
This is where Matet got angry, who admitted that she had been diagnosed with “bipolar disorder”.
Her brother “Kenneth” also allegedly told her to just resell Ate Guy’s product, something Matet could not accept.
“Here’s another one. This brother of mine, Kenneth, are you my brother? You’re an idiot. That’s crazy, eh. Eh, he’s not my brother because he’s just adopted. They said, if Mommy wants to do business, I’ll just let her go. I’ll just resell Mommy’s product and we’ll work together.”
Matet’s point is, she and her husband Mickey Estrada were the first to introduce gourmet tinapa and gourmet tuyo, so why would they be told to just resell?
“How do I feel about it? I feel very sad. I feel betrayed. I feel like a Trinidadian. I feel like… seriously, I feel like an adopted child right now, folks. The power to adopt is what they did. The power to adopt, I felt when I was adopted. No one would do this to their child. So, this means, they don’t really treat me like a child. They wouldn’t do this if they loved us, I just realized it now,” Matet’s emotional statement said.
He said he thinks the rift between him and his mother can’t be fixed, because it seems to be deep-rooted and rooted in the past.
“It doesn’t seem like it can, because I don’t know how you can do that to your child? We are siblings, we are having a hard time. My sister, my brother, just keep doing it. When Mommy does something wrong, then we resist, you say we don’t care. What is it? What do you want us to do here? I don’t understand.”
“It’s like we’re tied up, like we’re gagged, and you’re all slapping us. We’re tied up, we can’t do anything, we’re gagged, we can’t say anything, you’re slapping us, we’re useless as parents.”
Because of this, Matet allegedly blocked the mother on social media.
The Noranians also criticized Matet, but the character actress reportedly had an answer to those who say she is just riding on the popularity of her mother Superstar, which Cristy Fermin and Romel Chika discussed on “Cristy Ferminute”.
“Matet De Leon is still not ignored by bashers today, especially by fans of her mother Nora Aunor,” Cristy said. She is said to have been told that she has stopped, is ungrateful, and is outdated.
“Of course, Matet is not going to be a hit, replied Romel Chika.
“Supporting stars are not outdated, only the lead actors,” Matet told the Noranians.
“Oh, right, there’s a bite to it, a pinch to it, a slap to it…” Cristy commented.
Cristy wishes that things like this would end because no matter what court you look at, there is a reason why Matet is angry after his own mother even opposed the product they were selling. Meanwhile, Nora Aunor’s camp has not yet responded, reacted, or made a statement regarding the issue, as have the aforementioned personalities in her live broadcast.
