“Akala Ko Katapusan Ko Na” — Kim Chiu Caught on Video in Mid-Air Breakdown After Plane Malfunction

The bright smile, the bubbly laugh, the unshakable confidence — that’s how millions know Kim Chiu. But what happened 30,000 feet above the ground on a flight from Cebu to Manila stripped all of that away in seconds.

And it was all caught on video.

Passengers onboard Flight RP867 were settling in for a routine journey when turbulence struck without warning. According to eyewitnesses, the aircraft suddenly dipped, and a loud metallic bang echoed through the cabin. Overhead compartments flung open. Luggage tumbled. People screamed.

But what shocked netizens the most was Kim Chiu’s visible panic, caught by a fellow passenger seated two rows behind her. The video, which has since gone viral on TikTok and Facebook, shows Kim gripping the armrest, her eyes wide in fear, whispering prayers as the plane shook violently.

“I heard her say, ‘Lord, please, huwag ngayon…’,” said a fellow passenger. “She was crying. Her hands were trembling.”

The video shows Kim removing her mask briefly, trying to breathe steadily as flight attendants moved quickly to reassure passengers. An oxygen mask deployment was reportedly considered, though not activated.

After ten terrifying minutes, the turbulence eased. But the emotional damage was done.

When the plane landed safely at NAIA Terminal 3, Kim was seen visibly shaken, still wiping tears from her face. Fans and staff escorted her quickly out of the arrival gate, but not before reporters caught a glimpse of the actress, her eyes red and puffy, her voice hoarse.

Later that evening, Kim posted on Instagram:

“That was the scariest 10 minutes of my life. My heart wouldn’t stop racing. I thought I’d never see my family again. Salamat sa mga nag-pray at sa mga crew na kalmado kahit kami hindi na.”

The post was flooded with messages of support, even from fellow celebrities.

Vice Ganda commented: “Oh my gosh Kimmy! So glad you’re okay! I love you!”
Angel Locsin wrote: “Ingat palagi. Hug you tight virtually!”

Aviation experts say that the incident, while shocking, was not uncommon. “Aircraft are built to withstand this kind of turbulence,” said Captain Lito Hernandez. “But the emotional response is very real — especially when you’re not expecting it.”

For Kim, it was more than just turbulence — it was a near-death experience that reminded her of life’s fragility.

In a follow-up video, she opened up more vulnerably:

“Fame, awards, followers… none of that matters when you think you’re about to die. All I could think of was my parents, my siblings, my dogs… and how much I still want to live.”

The video ends with Kim giving a tearful smile and whispering, “Thank you, Lord.”

As her fans breathe a collective sigh of relief, one thing’s for sure — Kim Chiu may be a star, but she’s also human. And like all of us, there are moments when even the strongest tremble.

But what matters is: she made it back to solid ground.
And this time, with an even deeper appreciation for every second of life

Kim Chiu nervous after plane malfunctions in mid-air
Not only did she panic, Kim Chiu also worried for her safety when the plane she was on notified her that they had to return to Manila due to technical issues.

This is Kim’s post on her social media account where she shared her feelings when her flight was delayed.

She said, “Nakaka O to the M to the G moment!!!!! Our plane @flyPAL going to Butuan had to turn back to Manila just 10-15 mins after takeoff due to a technical issue. Mid-air, I found myself lowkey panicking — my mind racing, even looking for seat 11A. I tried to stay calm, prayed hard, and thankfully, we landed safely. What a morning. Back in Manila.”

Kim explained in her My Day that she was nervous after reading the news.

He also said that he looked for the 11A seat because it was what the internet or news pointed out as the “safest seat”.

Kim said that just a few minutes after their plane took off at 5am, the pilot announced that they had to return to the ground.

“Before that, the crew had been going in and out of the cockpit, which already had me low-key panicking. I tried to calm myself by sleeping it off.”

But when he woke up and realized they were still on the ground, he was left thinking.

Kim said he just prayed when they returned to the air for their trip.

Kim was unable to back out of the flight due to her commitment to an out-of-town show.

Kim has returned to Manila and is now live on “It’s Showtime” today, July 9.
