In a heartbreaking revelation that touched fans and fellow artists alike, singer-songwriter and OPM icon Ogie Alcasid mourned the loss of his beloved father, Herminio Alcasid Sr., who passed away on September 15, 2020. The sad news was confirmed by Ogie himself through a deeply emotional post on Instagram, where he poured out his sorrow and paid tribute to the man he described as his hero and guiding light.

“I will miss you so much Dad. My heart grieves knowing you are gone, but I am at peace because you are in the loving arms of our Father in heaven. I love you so much, Daddy,” Ogie wrote.

Herminio Alcasid Sr. was not only a respected lawyer but also served as the President and CEO of the PNOC Development and Management Corporation, a subsidiary of the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC), under the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III. He was admired not just for his accomplishments in the legal and public service sectors, but also for the strong values he instilled in his children.

Ogie, known for his emotional depth in both songwriting and performance, admitted that this is the first time he has experienced such a deep personal loss. In interviews following his father’s passing, he openly shared the difficulty of grieving while still maintaining strength for his own family.

“This is the first time I’ve lost someone so close to me. I still find myself crying. It hits me at random moments—during prayer, in silence, or even in the middle of a song,” he confessed in an interview with PEP.ph.

Ogie’s wife, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, also spoke out, expressing how devastating the sudden death was for their entire family. She revealed that Herminio Sr. had been in good health for months, making his sudden deterioration and passing all the more difficult to bear.

“We were lost. For months, he was okay. Then suddenly, when he got sick, we didn’t even get to say goodbye. That was the hardest part,” Regine shared.

The entertainment industry rallied around Ogie during his time of mourning. Celebrities and friends, including Pops Fernandez, Gary Valenciano, Marian Rivera, Ryan Agoncillo, Judy Ann Santos, and Zsa Zsa Padilla, extended their heartfelt condolences. Messages of love and encouragement flooded social media, reflecting the deep respect people held for Ogie’s father and the influence he had on his son’s remarkable career.

Despite the grief, Ogie remains grateful for the overwhelming support he has received. He continues to draw strength from his faith and the memory of his father, who he credits for molding him into the man he is today.

“I know my Dad is with the Lord now. That gives me peace. But I’ll always miss him. He was my anchor, my mentor, and my biggest fan,” he said.

This personal tragedy has also given Ogie a deeper sense of purpose. He recently returned to performing, dedicating his songs to his father’s memory and encouraging others to cherish every moment with their loved ones.

In times of pain, Ogie Alcasid’s music becomes even more poignant—a reflection of the man behind the melodies, now singing through sorrow, but never without love.
