On Grandson’s Birthday, Grandmother Hugs Him Tightly—Everyone Is Amazed by Her Love, But Exactly Three Days Later, the Entire Family Weeps Over a Shocking Event
On little Basti’s birthday, the entire family celebrated. He was two years old, and the house was full of laughter, laughter, and joy. His grandmother, Aling Pilar, could not be separated from him—she was always tail-wagging, carrying the child, kissing him, her eyes full of joy.
All the guests were impressed:
—“Grandmother loves her grandson so much, it makes my heart melt.”
—“If grandma is this caring, mommy will have nothing to worry about.”
Liza and her husband Ramil, Basti’s parents, smiled. They thought, Basti is truly lucky to have such a loyal and loving grandmother.
But exactly three days after the happy celebration, a tragedy shook the entire family.
The Painful Truth
It was afternoon when the neighbor suddenly called, almost shouting on the other line:
—“Go home immediately! Basti… Aling Pilar… Oh my God, I can’t say it!”
Liza and Ramil rushed home. When they arrived, a scene that shook their souls emerged: Basti, lying face down, was rushed to the hospital by neighbors. Pale, almost unconscious, and breathing weakly. Meanwhile, Aling Pilar was sitting on the floor, her gaze directionless, repeatedly muttering incoherent words.
When the doctor came out and explained the reason, it was as if they had been struck by lightning.
Aling Pilar had long carried a heavy belief: there must be a grandson who would carry on the family’s surname and blood. On the outside, she loved Basti very much. But deep down, she had developed the false belief that the child was “hers” and that only she had the right to shape it.
And in a moment of loss of consciousness, she did something no parent could imagine—something that almost took the life of her own grandson.
Family Collapse
The entire family screamed and cried. Liza fell to the hospital floor, crying, beating her chest:
—“Mom… how could you do this to your own flesh and blood?”
Ramil, stunned, held his head, unable to believe that his own mother had put his son in danger.
That night became a nightmare that no one in the family will ever forget
Thanks to being rushed to the hospital in time, Basti was lucky to escape the critical condition. For many days, he lay in the intensive care unit, his body covered with IV lines. Each breath he took felt like a thousand needles piercing his mother’s heart.
Liza stayed by his bedside day and night, her eyes dark, always holding his hand. Ramil walked around like a shadow, taking care of the hospital fees and trying to calm his wife.
When the doctor announced:
—“May tiyak na pag-asa. Bata pa siya, mabilis ang recovery,”
both burst into tears of relief.
News of the incident spread quickly in the neighborhood. Everyone was shocked, unable to believe that a grandmother who loved her grandchild like Aling Pilar could do such a thing.
During Basti’s hospital stay, the family atmosphere was heavy. Liza was in pain:
—“Paano pa natin maibabalik ang tiwala? Nanay mismo ang naglagay sa panganib sa anak natin…”
Ramil choked:
—“Si Nanay may sakit sa pag-iisip. Hindi na siya ang Nanay na nakilala ko noon.”
They understood that behind that horrifying act, Aling Pilar was no longer lucid.
After the incident, Aling Pilar was taken to the isang mental health facility sa Laguna for examination. The diagnosis: she suffered from late-onset psychosis, extremely obsessed with the concept of “apo ay pamana ng dugo.”
During the first days at the treatment facility, she repeatedly screamed Basti’s name, always thinking that the boy was still with her. Doctors had to combine medication and psychotherapy to stabilize her condition.
Although their hearts were still filled with pain, Liza and Ramil took turns visiting her, letting her know that the family had not completely abandoned her. But every time he saw his mother with a lost look in her eyes, Ramil choked up:
—“Nanay, sana maging payapa ka…”
After nearly two months, Basti gradually recovered. He returned to his innocence, his eyes shining. But Liza and her husband never forgot the chilling feeling when they saw their son turning purple on the emergency bed that day.
From then on, they decided to hire more yaya (babysitters) and reduced the number of times they left their child with their elderly mother. The small family lived more cautiously, always prioritizing Basti’s safety.
Many years passed, but the scar in their hearts remained. In the neighborhood, that story was repeated as a warning: if love turns into obsession and possession, it can cause tragedy.
Basti grew up healthy in the arms of his parents, but every time his birthday came, Liza still shuddered to remember: three days after turning two, her son almost left his mother’s arms forever.
As for Aling Pilar, his last years were spent in the treatment room, sometimes lucid, sometimes absent-minded, with only a sad look in his eyes.
The family understood that there are shocks that never heal completely, but at least they chose to face and overcome them. And they are grateful that Basti is still there, to remind them that: true love is giving protection and freedom, not the chains of obsession.
