In a deeply emotional moment that struck the hearts of many Filipinos, singer and actress Rachel Alejandro took to social media and public interviews to pay tribute to her father, OPM legend Hajji Alejandro, who recently passed away. Known for his iconic voice and contributions to Original Pilipino Music, Hajji’s death left a void in both the music industry and his family — a void that Rachel poured into a message so powerful, it moved the nation to tears.
A Daughter’s Grief, A Nation’s Loss
Rachel Alejandro, herself a celebrated performer, did not hold back her emotions as she shared stories, memories, and the immeasurable pain of losing the man who first introduced her to the world of music. In a video post that quickly went viral, she tearfully recalled her father’s final days and how much he meant to her and their entire family.
“I lost not just a father, but my biggest supporter, my musical soulmate, my hero,” Rachel said, her voice cracking as she fought back tears. “I will never forget the way he looked at me whenever I sang. He believed in me even before I believed in myself.”
Her heartfelt message resonated deeply with fans, many of whom grew up listening to Hajji Alejandro’s hits such as “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,” “Panakip Butas,” and “Nakapagtataka.” For many, his passing marked the end of a golden era of OPM, and Rachel’s grief gave a voice to the collective mourning of an entire generation.
A Legacy That Lives On
Rachel emphasized that although her father is no longer physically present, his legacy will never fade. She revealed that Hajji had been working on a number of unreleased recordings and musical projects — some of which may still see the light of day.
“He never stopped creating. Even in his final days, Dad was writing, composing, and dreaming of ways to bring back the golden age of OPM,” Rachel revealed.
She vowed to do everything she could to keep her father’s music alive and ensure that younger generations understand the depth and soul of true Filipino music.
Messages of Support Pour In
After Rachel’s emotional message circulated online, an outpouring of support came from fellow celebrities, musicians, and fans alike. Lea Salonga, Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, and Sharon Cuneta were among those who paid tribute to Hajji Alejandro and offered their condolences to the grieving family.
“Hajji was a pioneer, a friend, a brother in music. We’ve lost a legend,” said Gary Valenciano.
The Final Goodbye
In a private funeral attended by close family and industry friends, Rachel performed one of her father’s favorite songs — “Nakapagtataka” — with tears streaming down her face. The performance, captured by news outlets, became an emotional highlight of the memorial.
“He may be gone from this world, but he will forever sing through me,” Rachel said during the eulogy, holding back tears.
Conclusion
Rachel Alejandro’s tearful tribute is more than just a farewell; it is a reminder of the powerful bond between parent and child, between mentor and student, between icon and legacy. As the nation mourns Hajji Alejandro’s passing, we also celebrate a life that helped define the sound of the Philippines.
Rachel’s message continues to echo across platforms, not only as a daughter’s sorrow but also as a call to remember, honor, and continue the music that shaped generations.
Rachel Alejandro pays tribute to father Hajji Alejandro
Rachel Alejandro paid an emotional tribute to her father, OPM icon Hajji Alejandro, who passed away on Tuesday, April 22, at the age of 70.
In a Facebook post, Rachel described her father as the “day” of their family, whom they continue to surround themselves with because of his warmth and light.
She also recounted the memories of their time with their father from childhood to old age, and how they continue to seek his presence.
According to Rachel, Hajji did not have a talent manager and rarely used social media or PR, but became successful because of his talent, hard work, and charisma. He also said that he did not postpone shows even when he was feeling sick.
It was publicly known that Hajji had stage 4 colon cancer and underwent surgery in February. The family chose to keep his illness a secret, according to Rachel, because Hajji hoped that he would be able to return to performing.
“I’m not ready yet,” Rachel said as she recalled her father’s final moments. “I will now just be singing and dancing with Dad in my dreams.”
Hajji Alejandro, born Angelito Toledo Alejandro, was a well-known member of the Circus Band and became famous for the songs “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,” “Panakip-butas,” and “Tag-Araw, Tag-Ulan.
