Regine Velasquez Clarifies the Issue That Her Father Drowned Her in a Drum
In an interview with Ogie Diaz, Regine Velasquez shared a clarification on a popular legend that has been circulating for a long time regarding a strange experience she had when she was a child. According to the legend, her father used to drown her in a drum filled with water as part of his training to improve her singing skills. Many believed this story and it is considered part of urban legends in the music industry.

But according to Regine, her father did not drown her in a drum of water. According to her, she also does not know where the story started or why it spread. “Actually, I was not drowned in my father’s drum and I don’t know where it came from,” she clarified. “But mine, in the sea,” Regine added. She stated that her experience involved sea water and not a drum, as the story is spreading.

According to Regine, her father would make her sing while the water was up to her neck. Although it was difficult to sing in that condition, she revealed that the process was difficult at first but helped strengthen her muscles and lungs. “Of course, how can I sing when I’m underwater,” she explained. Regine admitted that it was difficult to breathe when the body was submerged in water due to the weight of the water pressure, whether in the sea or in a swimming pool. “Isn’t it difficult to breathe when you’re in the sea because it’s heavier or even when you’re actually in a pool, the water is heavy on your chest,” she added.

However, she considered this method to have helped her improve her singing skills. According to her, while she was submerged in water, the pressure she felt caused her stomach muscles and lungs to strengthen. When she was out of the water, she noticed that her voice got stronger and her singing skills expanded.

Even though her father passed away a long time ago, Regine admitted that she still practices this training method. Sometimes, her husband, Ogie Alcasid, even reminds her to do it as part of her vocal exercise. For Regine, it is an important part of her life and her career as a singer.

Strengthening her voice is important to Regine, so she continues to appreciate the simple things that have helped her improve her skills. Although many know her story, there are still aspects of her life and training that the public does not know. In her statements, she wants to convey that not all stories about her are true and it is important for her to correct misconceptions about her past.

Despite the trials and occasional misunderstandings, Regine is grateful for the lessons she learned from her family, especially her father, who has continued to serve as an inspiration in her career. Discipline, practice, and a love for music have guided him to achieve his dreams. He continues to serve as an inspiration to young people who want to follow in his footsteps and succeed in the field of music.
