In an interview, Regine Velasquez acknowledges the changes in her voice.
Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez knows that there are changes in her voice now and that she sounds differently.
One of the most successful singers in the country is Regine Velasquez, dubbed Asia’s Songbird. She can easily belt out and even take out covers of other songs a note higher than the original.
In a previous article, she opened up about her condition which greatly affects her life and her performance. Regine suffers from extreme migraine and she’s been suffering from this for many years now.
Through the years a lot has changed in her and one of those things is her voice. In an interview with Ogie Diaz, she admitted that there are changes in her voice and gradually, she embraces these changes in her vocal performances as she gets older.
She used to resist this reality but now, she is accepting it and she’s seeing it in a positive way.
“I don’t sound the same anymore but I’ve grown to love how I sound now kasi ito na iyong pinoproduce ko now. Bagamat iba siya 20 years before, but because I have so much experience pati passion ko sa pagkanta, mayroon namang inimprove pagdating doon,” she said.
The experiences and consistent changes transformed everything in her. What she puts her focus on now is her current career and the opportunities that come her way. She is grateful that she’s still in her position – with her supporters, shows, and even an upcoming concert.
“Nothing for me to complain about,” she quipped.
On becoming the Asia’s Songbird
She’s been in the industry long enough before she earned the title. In 1989, a competition called Asia Song Festival in Hong Kong was held and she joined as one of the contestants. She served show-stopping performances of the Broadway tunes “You’ll Never Walk Alone (from Carousel)” and “And I Am Telling I’m Not Going” (from Dreamgirls).
That was how she earned the title.
She reigned and she became unstoppable to reach the top following her international victory. After sold-out concerts and successful album releases, she tried acting and starred in various projects such as The Untouchable Family (1988); Pik, Pak, Boom (1988); and Elvis and James 2 (1989) until she reached lead-star status in Wanted: Perfect Mother (1996); Do Re Mi (1996); Honey, Nasa Langit Na Ba Ako? (1998); and Dahil May Isang Ikaw (1999).
She also tried musical theater and was the leading lady of Kenkoy Loves Rosing (1992) and Maria Clara in Noli Me Tangere (1995). At the turn of the new millennium, Regine reached her peak and up until now, she remains to be on top and one of the most highly-regarded artists in the music industry.
