Ka Freddie passed away today, May 27, at 1:30 a.m., while confined at the Philippine Heart Center. He is survived by his wife Jovie and his children. Lawyer George Briones, the general counsel of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, confirmed the passing of Ka Freddie, former national executive vice president of PFP.

Friend and veteran actress Vivian Velez also posted on Facebook about the singer’s passing. She said, “OPM icon Freddie Aguilar has passed away today (May 27) at the PH Heart Center Hospital.“He was 72 years old. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. His music will forever live on in our hearts. #FreddieAguilar.”

Freddie Aguilar is a singer-songwriter who is considered a pillar of the Philippine music industry and has also brought honor to the Philippines through awards and recognition in various parts of the world.

Ka Freddie started out as a street musician and folk club performer in Manila and Olongapo until he landed a regular gig at Mama Consuelo’s Music Lounge in Quiapo, Manila.

He soon became known as a folk singer in Malate, Manila.
