Chavit Singson Refuses to Buy Nora Aunor’s Apartment—But What He Did Instead Proves the Depth of Their Bond

In a heart-wrenching turn of events just days before her passing, the late National Artist Nora Aunor made a private plea to longtime friend and political figure Luis “Chavit” Singson—one that would spark both intrigue and admiration in the entertainment world.

Facing an urgent health crisis that required costly heart surgery, Aunor, known affectionately as “Ate Guy,” reached out to Singson in hopes he would purchase one of her properties in Iriga, Bicol. The transaction, intended to help raise funds for her mounting hospital bills, was relayed through fellow veteran actress and close friend Daisy Romualdez, who had long been a bridge between the two iconic figures.

But in a twist that only deepened the emotional weight of their exchange, Chavit Singson declined the offer.

Chavit Singson hindi binili ang ari-arian na ibinenta ni Nora Aunor, anyare?!

A Gentle Refusal—But a Grand Gesture

According to entertainment columnist Cristy Fermin, Singson did not want to purchase the property, stating that he wasn’t currently interested in acquiring more real estate. However, what happened next reveals a far deeper layer of humanity.

Rather than buy the apartment, Singson quietly offered to shoulder all of Nora Aunor’s hospital expenses—an act of generosity that stunned even those close to him. Sources say he preferred to keep the act private, but it was Fermin herself who decided to share it with the public, saying, “The people deserve to know who stood by her in her most difficult time.”

It wasn’t about business. It was about friendship, legacy, and loyalty that went beyond headlines and contracts.

The Final Days of a Legend

Aunor, whose career spanned over five decades and defined generations of Filipino cinema, had been battling multiple health issues for years. Despite her status as a National Artist and receiving a regular pension, the financial strain of urgent medical needs placed her in a precarious position. Those close to her maintain that she was never in poverty, but like many artists of her era, she was fiercely private and proud—and often reluctant to ask for help.

The decision to reach out to Singson was, by all accounts, not one made lightly.

“She only wanted enough to cover the surgery,” said a family confidante. “She was still earning from her farmland in Iriga. This wasn’t about desperation—it was about dignity.”

A Bond Beyond Fame

Chavit Singson’s gesture may come as a surprise to many who view the flamboyant businessman and politician through a lens of controversy. But to those in Nora’s inner circle, his response reaffirmed the quiet strength of their long-standing friendship.

“They had known each other for years,” Romualdez said. “Not everything between two people needs to be explained publicly. What matters is what you do when it counts.”

A Final Farewell Worthy of a Queen

Nora Aunor passed away on April 16, 2025. The nation mourned the loss of its greatest screen icon. A necrological service was held at the historic Metropolitan Theater in Manila, attended by fellow artists, government officials, and thousands of devoted fans. Days later, she was laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani—a rare and fitting honor for a woman who represented not just art, but the soul of the Filipino people.

As tributes continue to pour in, one story stands out—not for its drama, but for its quiet grace. The story of how Chavit Singson, when asked to buy a piece of Nora’s life, chose instead to give her peace.

And in that one decision, he reminded us that sometimes, the most powerful gifts are those made not in public spectacle—but in private love.

The Diamond Star may have shone the brightest on screen, but in her final moments, she was surrounded by something even more radiant: unwavering loyalty.

Chavit Singson didn’t buy the property sold by Nora Aunor, what’s up?!
BEFORE passing away on Holy Wednesday, April 16, Superstar Nora Aunor even spoke to former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson.

There is a very beautiful and touching story behind Ate Guy’s illness and hospitalization before he passed away.

It was reported that the late National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts asked for help from veteran actress Daisy Romualdez.

This was to talk to Manong Chavit because Ate Guy had a problem related to his illness.

In the previous episode of the “Showbiz Now Na” YouTube channel, Cristy Fermin, Romel Chika and Wendell Alvarez discussed the conversation between Nora and Chavit. They confirmed that Nora called Daisy Romualdez to ask for help in talking to Manong Chavit so that she could sell her properties in Iriga, Bicol.

Daisy immediately called the former governor to inform him of Ate Guy’s request to talk to them.

But the trouble is, Manong Chavit refused to buy Nora’s properties in Iriga because he is not buying properties now. Following this, when the businessman and former public servant learned that the Superstar was going to use the proceeds from the properties for his heart surgery, he immediately helped Ate Guy.

Chavit himself said that he would only pay the hospital bills of the late Superstar.

According to Nanay Cristy, Manong Chavit did not want to let the public know about this but for her, they should just mention it so that the public knows about his help when Nora was in need.

Based on the comments we read from netizens, Nanay Cristy’s statements are absolutely true and it is not true that Ate Guy approached Chavit because he had nothing.

The Superstar is said to still have money from his pension and other benefits as a National Artist, in addition to what he earns from the harvest of his lands in Iriga.

Nora Aunor’s remains were delivered to her final destination at the Heroes’ Cemetery in Taguig on Tuesday, April 22 after her state necrological service was held at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila.
