According to reports, the officer—identified as Patrolman Ricardo “Rico” Alvarez—was responding to a violent hostage-taking situation in a crowded barangay in Quezon City. The suspect, armed and unstable, had already injured several bystanders and was threatening to kill more.
In a moment of critical decision-making, Pat. Alvarez rushed in and managed to push several hostages to safety, using himself as a human shield to protect them from gunfire.
