The relationship between Alynna Velasquez and Hajji Alejandro was a 27-year-long love story that began in 1998. They were a well-known couple in the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) scene, with Alynna being a singer and Hajji’s longtime partner.

In February 2025, Hajji Alejandro was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer and underwent surgery. He later experienced complications, including seizures and infections, requiring intensive hospital care. During this time, a video of Hajji in the hospital was leaked on social media, leading to criticism from his family, who suspected Alynna of sharing the footage. However, Alynna denied intentionally releasing it, stating she only sent it to a friend of Hajji’s to ask for prayers.

Due to tensions with Hajji’s family, Alynna decided to leave their shared home after 27 years together. She said, “I realized I’m not the wife—just the girlfriend. When illness strikes, family must come first.” Nevertheless, she expressed her willingness to support Hajji and his family whenever needed.

Hajji Alejandro passed away on April 21, 2025, after his battle with cancer. Alynna wrote a heartfelt tribute, expressing deep gratitude and sorrow for the loss of her life partner.

Hajji Alejandro’s girlfriend Alynna Velasquez took to social media to explain her earlier post about not being able to attend her boyfriend’s wake.

“I didn’t point a finger at anyone. I was ok with it. Rather, I blamed myself and just accepted my fate, Alynna began her caption that accompanied a post of herself at Hajji’s star on the Walk of Fame.

“Dear friends and followers, please don’t attack or blame the family. There are some members who respect me and those who hate my existence. It’s just my destiny and predetermined path. And I am also defective at times. For these, I apologize,” she continued.

“My biggest regret is I let some people interfere with our lives. So many wasted time. Life is just so short,” Alynna added.

Her explanation came as the comment section of her earlier post became “a debate box” that contained “harsh pronouncements blown out of proportion,” she said.

Alynna’s post follows her brief social media exchange with Hajji’s daughter Rachel Alejandro, who thanked her for loving her father.

Hajji’s death was announced on April 22. He was 70 years old. Shortly after, Alynna posted a heartfelt tribute for her boyfriend of 27 years, confirming his stage 2 colon cancer and recounting their last 8 days together.

That evening, she again took to social media, posting a video of her visit to Hajji’s star at the Eastwood Walk of Fame, saying she was “unable to go to you wake for reasons I don’t have control of.

Before Alynna spoke about her decision to leave and take all her belongings from Hajji’s house, she first talked about the veteran singer’s illness.

What was Hajji’s reaction when he learned he had colon cancer?

Alynna shared: “I did not see any reaction from him.

“I think, knowing him for 27 years, he’s scared and what he is, he still can’t believe it.

“And I know in his heart, he’ll get over it.

“It was really sudden, he was playing golf. He does everything, he walks. I’m the lazy one, you know.

“He was eating healthy and, all of a sudden, that happened.

“He didn’t cry, he didn’t cry, but I know he was thinking. Alynna also shared the events since Hajji’s surgery last month. She didn’t elaborate on what surgery the singer underwent.

She said: “From the operation, he was okay. He started to talk.

“After two, three days, he started to have some seizures and then we found out, he had an infection, so he was rushed to the ICU.

“And it took a while because they were trying to find out where the infection was coming from ‘coz it’s not from the operation, so somewhere else.

“That’s why the ICU was also restricted at that time because that’s where the infection might have come from.

“And then finally, they found out. And then after a week, they took off the respirator and then he began to talk.

“And it was my birthday when I prayed. I said, ‘Lord, I hope on my birthday he’s in a regular room.’ And my prayer was answered.

“He’s in a room. Now he’s in therapy for the next few days.

“And today, he’s home.

“He has a walker because he’s learning to walk again because he’s lost his muscles. He’s really not. He’s incapacitated.

“But he still has a good memory. He still tells stories about things we don’t remember anymore.”

ALYNNA BLAMED FOR LEAKED NEWS ABOUT HAJJI’S CONDITION
The public learned of Hajji’s health ordeal after a screenshot of a Facebook post from a group of school alumni about the singer’s condition and the prayers they were requesting went viral. Hours after the Facebook post went viral on February 27, 2025, Alynna issued a message and warned that the news circulating about the 70-year-old OPM icon was “fake news.”

“Stop sharing the post about Hajji. FAKE NEWS!!! Will unfriend careless people who post!!!” Alynna’s appeal. During her conversation with Julius, Alynna denied that she was the one who leaked information about Hajji’s illness to the media. But she admitted that she was the one who told a friend of Hajji’s.

The veteran singer’s family allegedly didn’t like it and she was blamed for spreading information about the relationship.

Alynna said: “I was blamed by the family.

“Not to the media but to Hajji’s best friends.

“Of course he was critical. The family wanted it to be private and I respect it.

“But when Hajji was critical, I had to tell someone. I had to tell his best friends, so I said.

His best friend had good intentions to tell San Beda Group, because Hajji was San Beda.

“Then it went viral and I was blamed for it. But I said, ‘Look, everybody prayed…’

“And there was this video also that the mom [Hajji’s mother] went viral…

“I took the video because I think it’s a very special moment for Lola and Hajji. I don’t see them like that, you know.

“Actually, Hajji was just sleeping. He wasn’t critical. He was just resting and Lola was just singing.

“And then I shared it with the Alejandro family. I didn’t know that somebody from that group would share it to someone who has, of course, good intentions but to ask for prayers.

“So, it really went viral.

“And so now, even though they blame me, I thank you all for sharing that video and for sharing what happened to Hajji.

Alynna also shared her decision to leave Hajji’s home in Antipolo due to bad circumstances.

Alynna said: “I felt like they wanted to take care of him.

“Because I’ve been Hajji’s partner for 27 years. I have things to say. I have things to share. It seems like we’re in conflict with each other’s opinions.

“So that Sunday, something happened. Something not good happened and then I apologized for whatever I said.

“But I just got hurt and I feel like… Hajji has been my partner for 27 years, I think that I already know him.

“But now, putting myself in the shoes of the children, I thought that if it were me, I would prefer to have my father with me because he is family.”

Alynna added: “I am not a wife, I am just a girlfriend.

“So, I think, when it comes to technical matters, the family has all the right to have him, to be with him.

“So, you know, I backed out. When they need me, I’ll just be around.

“So, right now, I just want to go back to work and catch up.”

Was she fired or did she decide to leave?

Alynna replied: “They didn’t say anything but I felt that I had to do it to make ends meet… because she had hired a private nurse, eh.

“So, it seems like I have nothing to do there.

“Hajji knows [about my leaving], but of course he can’t say anything for now, it’s all so sudden.

“We didn’t practice that if he got sick, what would we do? There’s nothing like that, huh.

“If we were to get married, what would we do? If the family rejected you, what would we do?

“There’s no practice at all so I just have to… well, I said, I just followed my heart.

“I just left so that… they would be able to take care of him without any conflict.”

Until now, he said, he and Hajji have not communicated with each other.
