MANILA, Philippines — The Filipino entertainment world is in mourning following the unexpected death of T.G.I.S. heartthrob Red Sternberg at age 50 — and now, shocking details are emerging about his final moments, including the last words he reportedly uttered before he passed away.

According to a close family source, Red had been quietly battling an undisclosed illness for several months but chose to keep it private. He spent his final days surrounded by a small circle of loved ones — and in those final moments, his last words left everyone in tears.

“Tell them… I never stopped loving them. They were my family.”
These were allegedly Red Sternberg’s final words, spoken just before he slipped into unconsciousness.

The identity of the “them” remains unclear, but fans and former colleagues believe he was referring to his T.G.I.S. co-stars — many of whom he hadn’t seen in decades — and the loyal fans who never forgot him.

FROM TEEN IDOL TO SILENT HERO

Red Sternberg captured the hearts of millions in the 1990s through T.G.I.S. (Thank God It’s Sabado), playing the quintessential “cool guy” in a generation-defining show that became a staple in every Filipino household.

Though he eventually stepped away from the limelight and lived a quiet life away from showbiz, Red’s name never truly faded. Rewatch clips of the series on YouTube, and his smile still draws comments from nostalgic fans.

He spent the latter part of his life abroad and reportedly returned to the Philippines in early 2024 to be closer to his family as his health declined.

CO-STARS SHOCKED AND HEARTBROKEN

As news of his passing spread, the T.G.I.S. cast expressed their heartbreak on social media.

Angelu de Leon posted a tearful video:

“Red… you were one of the kindest souls in our group. I’m sorry we didn’t get to say goodbye properly.”

Bobby Andrews, fighting back tears during an interview, said:

“We were supposed to catch up. I had no idea it would be this soon…”

The group had been planning a reunion to mark the show’s 30th anniversary in 2025. Now, fans say, the celebration will be incomplete.

FANS FLOOD SOCIAL MEDIA WITH GRIEF

Hashtags #GoodbyeRedSternberg, #TGISForever, and #YouAreMissedRed have taken over Twitter and Facebook, with fans sharing throwback photos, quotes, and clips from Red’s most iconic episodes.

One tweet that went viral read:

“We didn’t just lose a star. We lost a part of our childhood.”

A FINAL MESSAGE TO THE WORLD?

Before he passed, Sternberg was reportedly writing a letter addressed to his fans and former co-stars — but the letter remains unfinished. The family has yet to decide whether it will be released to the public.

“He wanted people to know he was at peace,” said the same source. “He held no grudges. He just wanted to be remembered with love.”

‘T.G.I.S.’ star Red Sternberg has passed away at the age of 50. His wife Sandy Sternberg announced the news via a social media post.

“To be greeted ‘happy birthday’ and ‘sorry for your loss’ at the same time three consecutive days of what was supposed to be a celebration full of birthdays. May was our month! 5th, 28th, 29th and 30th,” Sandy said.

“My husband suddenly passed away the morning of Tuesday, May 27th. To those who knew him from his early acting days, he was ‘Kiko,’ but to our three kids and I he was simply Daddy/Dada. Today would have been his 51st birthday,” she said.

Sandy asked for prayers and privacy for her family as they go through a difficult time.
