Kris Aquino’s Final Wish Left Boy Abunda in Tears – A Heartbreaking Reunion That Touched Millions”
In one of the most emotional moments ever seen on Philippine television, veteran talk show host Boy Abunda broke down in tears during a special episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, aired on February 14, 2024. The cause? A heartfelt request made by his dear friend Kris Aquino, who joined the show via Zoom from her home in California, where she continues her battle with multiple autoimmune diseases.
This wasn’t just another celebrity interview—it was a deeply personal and soul-stirring reunion between two of the country’s most beloved media personalities, bonded by decades of friendship, trust, and unspoken understanding.
An Emotional Homecoming, Even From Afar
Kris Aquino, often referred to as the “Queen of All Media,” has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years due to her fragile health. Diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases, including Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria and Churg-Strauss Syndrome, she has been undergoing extensive treatments in the United States—often alone, away from her loved ones and the public who adore her.
For this reason, her appearance—even virtually—on Fast Talk was nothing short of momentous. Fans held their breath as she appeared on screen, thinner and more delicate than before, but still exuding the grace, intelligence, and wit that made her a household name.
The Shocking Request That Shattered Hearts
In the middle of the conversation, Kris turned serious. With a trembling voice and tears welling in her eyes, she asked Boy Abunda to grant her one favor—something deeply personal and difficult.
“If something happens to me,” she said, “I want you to be the one to speak for me. Please deliver the message I’ve prepared for my sons.”
Boy Abunda, visibly stunned, covered his face as he struggled to hold back the tears. His voice cracked as he responded, “Kris, please don’t talk like that…”
But Kris, ever the realist despite her optimism, continued. “I’m not being morbid. I’m being prepared. I owe my children, and the people who truly love me, clarity. If I can’t speak for myself one day, I trust only you to speak for me—with truth and love.”
It was a request that left the studio in stunned silence and viewers weeping at home. For someone as fiercely independent and private as Kris Aquino, entrusting her final words to someone else was not just touching—it was a profound gesture of vulnerability and unconditional trust.
Boy Abunda’s Tears: A Testimony of Deep Friendship
In that moment, Boy Abunda was not just a host—he was a friend grieving a reality he wasn’t ready to face. He later admitted that it was one of the hardest interviews he’s ever done in his entire career. “I wanted to be strong for her,” he shared in a post-show interview. “But how do you stay strong when the person you love is preparing you for goodbye?”
Their exchange revealed the raw, unfiltered truth of their friendship—a bond not built on showbiz, but on real life, real pain, and real loyalty.
Kris Aquino’s Courage and Legacy
Though battling illness, Kris Aquino remains sharp, courageous, and unyielding in her honesty. She didn’t sugarcoat her condition, nor did she indulge in self-pity. Instead, she spoke about being grateful—grateful for her doctors, her supporters, her two sons Josh and Bimby, and the few people who have never abandoned her, including Boy.
“I don’t know how much time I have,” she said. “But I know how much love I’ve received. That’s enough for me.”
The Nation Watches, the Nation Weeps
As clips from the episode spread online, fans flooded social media with prayers, memories, and messages of support. Hashtags like #StayStrongKris, #BoyAbundaAndKris, and #KrisAquinoLegacy trended across the Philippines.
Even celebrities and politicians sent messages of support. Many praised her bravery, while others commended Boy for handling such a heartbreaking moment with the sensitivity and love only a true friend could offer.
More Than Just TV—It Was History
What the world witnessed wasn’t just a TV interview. It was a moment of humanity, friendship, and courage in its purest form. It reminded millions that behind the glamour of showbiz are people with hearts, struggles, and stories too heavy to carry alone.
Kris Aquino may be fighting a silent war within her body, but her spirit remains unshaken. And Boy Abunda—through his tears—reminded us all that loyalty is louder than fame, and that true friendship doesn’t end when the cameras stop rolling.
Boy Abunda talks about seeing Kris Aquino in LA: ‘It was a happy, beautiful reunion’
During his Nov. 7 episode for Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the King of Talk talked about his reunion with Kris, who is in the US receiving medical treatment.
“It was a happy, beautiful reunion,” the King of Talk said. “Dahil matagal kaming hindi nagkita ni Kris. Text lamang at telepono kami nagkakausap, but it was different seeing her.”
Boy admitted that he was emotional when he visited Kris’ home in Orange County, Los Angeles last Oct. 25.
“We had a nice interaction, we had a nice conversation. Marami po kaming napag kwentuhan. Sabi nga ng kanyang anak, ang aking inaanak na si Bimby (Aquino), ‘Alam niyo po Ninong I’m back to my four-year-old self. Parang nakikita ko po na kayong dalawa ay nag sho-show,’” he said.
Boy shared that his good friend and former workmate, Kris, is in good hands under the care of excellent nurses and doctors in the US. He confirmed that Kris will need to stay in the US for another 15 to 18 months due to the availability of her doctors and medicines there.
“We are praying na sana mapaikli po ito para makasama ho ulit natin si Kris dito sa Pilipinas,” he said.
The host said Kris wanted him to thank her fans on her behalf.
She wanted me to let you know, kayo po, na sobra ang kanyang pasasalamat. Hindi niya kinakailangang kaibigan, kakilala, katrabaho, kamag-anak, but alam niyang nagdadasal ang lahat. Napakaraming tao nagdadasal para sakanya,” Boy said, adding that Kris wishes that they pray for her family and support system, too.
“I just missed her. I just missed her. And I pray that one of these days, makita natin ang aming pag-uusap,” Boy said. He added that he will be giving more updates on Kris’ condition soon.
Boy concluded his message by affirming his love for Kris, who he mentioned enjoys watching his shows regularly.
“I love you, I love you Bimb, Josh, everybody in that house. Mahal na mahal ko po kayo at maraming salamat sa panahon na binigay mo sa akin, Krissy,” he said.
Last Oct. 27, Kris posted about the reunion on her Instagram account and to greet Boy an advanced happy birthday.
“Happy Birthday (Oct 29) to the keeper of all my secrets, the one who assured me that come what may he’ll be there for my sons, and the friend who until now fights my battles with me,” she wrote. “To my other brother, I love you completely. #lovelovelove”
In 2007, Kris and Boy hosted the morning talk and lifestyle show of ABS-CBN Boy & Kris. The show aired its final episode on February 13, 2009. They later reunited in 2014 for another show called Aquino & Abunda Tonight, but it was canceled after a year when Kris announced her departure from the show.
