Manila, Philippines — On the second night of the wake for veteran actor Ricky Davao, the atmosphere at the funeral home grew heavier as friends, family, and fellow artists from the entertainment industry poured in by the dozens, some unable to hold back their tears while recalling fond memories with the late actor-director.

An Icon Remembered

Ricky Davao, a respected figure in Philippine showbiz for more than four decades, passed away earlier this week, leaving behind a legacy of powerful performances on both film and television. Known for his depth, discipline, and undeniable screen presence, Ricky was not just an actor, but a mentor to many in the younger generation.

“He wasn’t just a co-star — he was a guiding light,” said actress Jackie Lou Blanco, his former partner, who appeared visibly emotional during the evening.

Celebrities Flock to Wake

The second night of the wake saw a surge in attendance, with veteran stars, directors, and even young newcomers coming to pay tribute. Notable figures seen entering the venue included Sharon Cuneta, Piolo Pascual, Dina Bonnevie, Iza Calzado, and Coco Martin, among others.

Each brought flowers, memories, and words of comfort to the grieving family — especially to Ricky’s children, who have remained strong but heartbroken throughout the ceremonies.

“He taught me that kindness on set matters more than fame,” said a tearful young actor, who worked with Ricky in a recent teleserye.

A Night Full of Emotion

What made this night different was the raw emotion that filled the room. At one point, a slideshow of Ricky’s career highlights played on a screen at the front, causing audible sobs to echo throughout the chapel.

One poignant moment came when a family member read a letter Ricky had written years ago, meant to be read only “when the time comes.” In it, Ricky expressed gratitude for the life he lived, and his hope that his work would “continue to live in the hearts of those who watched, learned, and loved.”

Final Tributes

As the night drew on, a group of artists performed an emotional song tribute — the same song Ricky had sung in a stage play early in his career. The room fell silent, with many attendees quietly weeping.

“His artistry was unmatched. But more than that, he was a good man,” said director Laurice Guillen.

A Nation in Mourning

On social media, fans used hashtags like #SalamatRickyDavao and #LegendLivesOn as tributes continued to pour in from across the country. For many, Ricky’s death was not just a personal loss but a cultural one — the passing of a pillar in Filipino storytelling.

Ricky Davao’s interment is scheduled for later this week, and organizers are preparing for a final send-off fitting for an icon.
