Veteran actor Rey PJ Abellana couldn’t help but express his feelings after watching an interview released on journalist Julius Babao’s YouTube channel, which featured his ex-wife Rea Reyes and their daughter Carla Abellana.

In the said interview, Rea and Carla openly discussed some long-standing personal issues that have plagued their family. One of the centers of discussion was Rea and Rey PJ’s divorce, as well as the controversial issue of alleged cheating that has been linked to the actor several times in the past.

For Rey PJ, the content of the interview surprised him greatly. Instead of serving as a space for proper clarification, he felt as if only one side was presented and he was the one who was put in the public eye. According to him, the narration of the events was unfair and it seemed as if he was the one who came out as the one at fault for everything.

“It hurts and weighs heavily on my chest. What I heard was not what I expected. It really seems brutal to me,” said Rey PJ.

“There were statements that were made that were really against me.”

In a report by Gorgy Rula for the SHOWBIZ GANERN! column in the Pilipino Star Ngayon, Rey PJ shared that he was shocked by the publicizing of issues that they had supposedly overcome for a long time. In his view, such sensitive details about their family life should not be made public, especially since they have been a part of their past for a long time.

The actor added that he would have preferred to remain silent and respect the silence of their family, but because of the statements made by his ex-wife and son, it seems he was forced to speak out to clear his name and present his version of events.

“All the while I have not come out against them,” he added.

Rey PJ also did not deny that he was affected not only as a father but as a person. He said he has no intention of tarnishing his daughter Carla’s image, especially since she has been a proud member of the showbiz industry for a long time. But he also believes that it is important to hear both sides of every story — especially when a person’s name and reputation are at stake.

Although it is not yet clear whether Rey PJ will follow up his statement with a more detailed account, he insisted that he is open to a proper conversation if the opportunity arises. For him, it is never too late to have an understanding in the family — especially if it is for the good of all parties.

Despite the tension, Rey PJ still hopes that in the end, love as a family and respect for each other will prevail, despite the misunderstandings that have occurred in the past.
