In a whirlwind of rumors that sent fans into a frenzy, the idea of a romantic rekindling between Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion has taken over social media—again. But this time, the Megastar herself has spoken out, putting an end to all the speculation once and for all.

The Rumor That Shook Showbiz

For weeks, online gossip sites and fan pages have been abuzz with talk that Sharon and Gabby—once the golden couple of Philippine cinema—may have quietly rekindled their romance. The rumors sparked after the two were seen appearing more frequently in public together, sharing noticeably warmer interactions, and even exchanging nostalgic messages online.

One viral post claimed:

“Gabby and Sharon are giving second-chance vibes. Could love be sweeter the second time around?”

Fans of the Sharon-Gabby love team, which reigned supreme in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, were ecstatic, many expressing hope that the former couple might write a new chapter in their real-life love story.

Sharon Finally Sets the Record Straight

But just as the rumors reached a boiling point, Sharon addressed the issue head-on in an exclusive interview:

“We are not back together—romantically. Gabby and I will always share a deep bond, but our relationship today is purely rooted in respect, healing, and friendship.”

She went on to say that years of emotional distance and personal growth have brought them to a peaceful, more mature connection:

“We’ve both changed. We’ve both been through a lot. Now, we can look at each other and smile—not because we want to go back to the past, but because we’ve finally made peace with it.”

Where They Stand Now

According to Sharon, she and Gabby have made a conscious decision to co-parent harmoniously for the sake of their daughter, KC Concepcion, and to preserve the legacy of their once-iconic tandem.

“We’re friends. And believe me, that’s already a big thing.”

Gabby, for his part, has echoed the same sentiments in a recent interview:

“We’re okay. We talk when it matters. There’s no more drama.”

KC Reacts to Her Parents’ Peaceful Bond

KC Concepcion, who has always been open about her longing for unity between her parents, expressed happiness at seeing them together again—even just as friends:

“It’s healing for me to see them smiling together. That’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

Public Reaction: Mixed but Mostly Hopeful

While some fans expressed disappointment that a romantic reunion was off the table, many applauded the two for showing maturity and grace:

“Sharon and Gabby may not be back together, but their friendship is more powerful now.”
“Sometimes, closure is more beautiful than a second chance.”

The Final Word

Sharon ended her message with a heartfelt reminder to her fans:

“Please don’t be sad. What Gabby and I have now is real. It’s based on forgiveness, growth, and love—not the romantic kind, but the kind that lasts.”

Why Gabby turned down reunion movie with Sharon

One reason Concepcion turned it down was he did not like being offered the role based only on a synopsis and not a full story.

He also explained that, while he had his hesitations over the proposed story of the film, it was the fact that he had just signed a fresh contract with a rival network when the project was being conceptualized that had more bearing behind his decision.

“I’m new, so I just felt that I don’t want to lose the momentum of [GMA-7] that we just started and then suddenly I’m going to work with others,” Concepcion said, before noting that while Dingdong Dantes agreed to top-bill Star Cinema movies, his situation as a newbie to the network is different.

Concepcion also acknowledged that he did not tell Cuneta his reason for backing out of the reunion movie.

He clarified, though, that he wants to push through with the project at some point: “That’s how I feel, at least one time, whether it’s the last movie we’ll ever gonna do, at least we have a leader.”

Concepcion first reasoned that his tight schedule and commitments made it impossible to shoot a movie with Cuneta.

It was reported back in December that Concepcion and Cuneta will be reuniting onscreen, which would be the first time since they worked together in the 1992 film “Tayong Dalawa.”
