An emotional and unforgettable moment took place at the funeral of the so-called “Superstar” of Philippine showbiz, Nora Aunor. From family members, friends, fellow artists, and fans—everyone could not help but cry as the woman who became the voice of a generation was escorted to her final destination.
The funeral was held amidst a large crowd that gathered to mourn and commemorate the actress’s remarkable legacy in the field of art. As her coffin was lowered, cries of grief rang out, with some even shouting “Mahal ka namin, Ate Guy!” as if in unbearable pain.
Her son Ian De Leon, brother Eddie Villamayor, and grandchildren such as Lotlot and Matet De Leon were all inconsolable in their tears. Lotlot, holding a small handkerchief, could barely speak due to the pain. “It hurts. There is no one like Mommy Guy. There is no one to replace her in our hearts,” he said.
Among those in attendance were some of the biggest names in the industry—from veterans to new artists who were inspired by Nora. Also present were lawmakers, directors, and musicians who once worked with the Superstar.
Her fans did not disappear either, some of whom traveled from the provinces to see their idol one last time. There were old fans who had almost lived with Nora, and there were young people who hoped to meet the legend.
As flowers were placed at her grave, the shouting gradually subsided, but the weight of emotion in the air remained. It was like a scene from a movie, but more painful, more real—this was the end of a legend, but also the beginning of her immortality in everyone’s memory.
Nora Aunor’s contribution to Philippine art was unparalleled, and now that she is gone, her funeral further proves that she was not just a Superstar — but a national treasure.
Nora Aunor escorted to her final destination, Libingan ng mga Bayani filled with tears, farewell
THE so-called Superstar and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, Nora Aunor, was escorted to her final destination this Tuesday, April 22.
After her emotional and loving state funeral that took place at the Metropolitan Theater (MET) where people close to the late veteran actress shared, a “Transfer of National Artists Medallion” ceremony was also held.
The ceremony was a sign of recognition of the impact of the late national artist and the awarding of the “Grand Collar” to the family as a symbol of Nora’s contribution.

Upon arrival at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, there was a departure honor followed by a march from the gate to the designated burial site for the late national artist. Upon arrival at the actual place where Nora’s remains were laid to rest, the final benediction by the assigned priest and the final viewing by Nora’s family, friends, and supporters were held.
Until Nora’s last moments, the siblings were seen being emotional until the closing of the casket, which was performed by her son Ian de Leon.
Following this, military honors were performed as well as a 21-gun salute as the coffin of the late national artist was lowered.
Ian was also the one who received the Philippine flag from the soldiers after the state funeral for his mother as a national artist.
The veteran actress’s bereaved family offered white roses one by one.
Several well-known personalities such as Bong Go, Robin Padilla, Nadia Montenegro, Philip Salvador, Ricky Lee, Imelda Papin, and Joel Saracho were also seen offering white flowers for the one and only Superstar.
Ian thanked those who came and accompanied them to escort Nora to her final destination. “Good afternoon to all of us. First of all, on behalf of my family, my siblings, our children, Mommy’s grandchildren, you don’t know how much we love you.
“Because of the love you gave to our mommy, she is the only Superstar because of all of you. There was a national artist because of all of you,” Ian said.
It will be recalled that many were shocked when the news broke that Nora had passed away on Holy Wednesday, April 16, due to acute respiratory failure.
