Wife went on a business trip, husband betrayed and the shocking moment when discovering evidence under the floor was…
I never suspected anything. Many times during meetings at the office in Makati, I tried to open the camera in the house but it didn’t work. I texted my husband – Jun – to ask, the camera was broken, he would call a technician to fix it right away. It wasn’t until the day I returned that he told me he had asked a technician to come.
Hello everyone. I’m very confused and don’t know how to solve my problem – positively or negatively.
Unlike normal families, in my family, I’m the main financial person. I work for an investment fund in Manila, my job is extremely busy, to the point that I have little time for my children. Therefore, in the eyes of the children, the father – Jun – is the one who has more influence. He does all the housework, from laundry, cooking to taking the children to school.
I know my weakness is that I’m too busy, not paying much attention to my family. But every time I have a long vacation, I book tickets for the whole family to travel to Boracay or Cebu. At least three times a year, I think I know how to balance work and family.
A week ago, I went on a business trip to Cebu City. This time, the children were on summer vacation, so I sent them to Batangas to visit their grandparents. At first, I invited Jun to come along for fun, but he refused, saying he would do it another time. I still had no doubts.
During the trip, every time I had free time, I tried to open the camera but it wouldn’t connect. Jun texted: “Huwag kang mag-alala, sira lang ang camera, tatawag ako ng technician.” (Don’t worry, the camera is broken, I’ll call a technician). It wasn’t until I returned that he told me he had sent someone to fix it.
That afternoon, I was cleaning the house and found a toothpick under the sofa. At first, I didn’t think anything was strange, until I saw red lipstick on the toothpick. I was stunned. Normally, I was the only one who used dental floss in the house, never toothpicks. There were no other women in the house, because the two sons were too young.
I asked Jun tactfully:
– “Did anyone come to visit while you were away on business?”
He immediately shook his head:
– “Wala. Wala akong dinala dito. (No, I didn’t bring anyone home).”
But when I put everything together – the camera “broke” right when I was away, Jun refused to go with me, and the toothpick with lipstick under the sofa – I was 80% sure that my husband had cheated on me. Worse still, he dared to bring that woman home right in my own house.
Now I am extremely hesitant. If I continue to investigate, I am afraid that my family will fall apart. But if I pretend that nothing happened, I don’t have the courage to swallow this bitterness.
I used to think that if I had solid evidence, I would make a decisive decision. But when faced with the suspicion of betrayal, I was afraid. Part of me wanted to believe Jun was innocent. Another part wanted to expose the truth.
Finally, I decided to hire a private detective in Makati, an acquaintance of a colleague who had asked me to. I gave him Jun’s photo, his daily schedule and instructed:
– “Tell me what he is really doing when I am not around.”
The first days of surveillance
On the second day, the detective reported that Jun went to the supermarket, bought food, and then went straight home. I breathed a sigh of relief, almost believing that I had thought wrong.
On the third day, Jun took his child to school, then sat at a nearby coffee shop until noon, then went home. Nothing suspicious.
But on the fourth day, the report made my heart flutter.
A familiar figure
At around 11 am, Jun went out, dressed neatly. He arranged to meet a woman at a restaurant on Makati Avenue. The detective took a picture and sent it to me.
I opened my phone. The woman was wearing a red dress, wavy hair, and lipstick the same color as the lipstick mark on the toothpick the day before. I was shaking.
The two of them sat next to each other, Jun smiled more than I had ever seen him smile at me. They touched hands and talked intimately.
In the afternoon, instead of going home, Jun and her went into a serviced apartment. The detective could not follow, but the image of Jun opening the door for her to enter was enough to kill the last bit of trust in my heart.
A bigger shock
I thought that was the end of the betrayal. But no. On the fifth day, the detective sent another report:
On one occasion when Jun went out with the woman, he stopped at a kindergarten in Quezon City. Both of them held the hands of a boy about 4 years old, and took him to class.
In the photo, Jun bent down to tie the child’s shoelaces. The gesture was attentive, gentle… just like the way he always did for my son.
My heart ached. It wasn’t just an affair. Jun seemed to have another family parallel to mine.
A long sleepless night
I sat in the dark room, looking at the photos the detective sent, tears falling nonstop. The man I once trusted, who had given me all his house and children, was now building another life behind my back.
He not only betrayed me, but also betrayed his innocent children – they innocently called him “tatay” with all their love.
Now, I no longer had to ask: “Is it true?”. I only had one question ringing in my head:
What will I do next? Will I endure in silence, or will I destroy this false shell, even if it means destroying my family?
I kept silent for a few days, my heart was torn. Seeing Jun still busy cleaning the house, cooking, smiling with the children as if nothing had happened, I felt suffocated. I knew, if I kept silent, I would go crazy.
That night, when the children were asleep, I called Jun into the living room. I put the phone down on the table, the screen still showing the photos the detective sent me: Jun having dinner with the girl in the red dress, the scene of him taking the little boy to kindergarten.
As soon as he looked, his face changed color.
– “You… where did you get these photos?” – Jun’s voice trembled.
I was strangely calm, asking each word:
– “Explain. Who is that woman? And that child… is your child, right?”
Jun was silent for a long time, his eyes avoiding. Finally, he sighed, lowered his head:
– “Yes… the child is your child.”
My heart felt like it was being torn apart. I pressed on:
– “Since when? How long have you been deceiving me and the child?”
Jun clenched his hands, his voice choked:
– “Four years. Before you started working at the investment fund, I… met her. At first it was just a mistake, but when the child was born, I couldn’t bear to abandon him. I didn’t know what to do, we were both flesh and blood…”
I laughed bitterly:
– “Flesh and blood? What about this family? What about your two children? I worked hard, trusted you with the whole family, and what about you? You secretly built another family behind my back.”
Jun burst into tears, repeating:
– “I’m sorry… I was wrong. But I can’t abandon the child. He’s innocent.”
I looked at him, my heart both angry and broken.
– “Do you think I can accept it? You turned this marriage into a lie. You forced me and the children to live in the shadow of your betrayal.”
The room fell into silence. There was only Jun’s sobs and my heart pounding, as if it was about to explode in my chest.
I knew, from this moment, we were at a crossroads of no return.
