Carmi Martin is set to play the role of Naty, a grandmother, in the upcoming film Isang Komedya Sa Langit.

“She’s a vendor, a widow, and is raising her grandchild,” Carmi shared about her comedic character.
Her grandson in the film, Marco, will be played by Aki Blanco.

The movie, which Carmi described as “a mix of drama and comedy,” is set to premiere on May 28, 2025.

Carmi shared a funny story about how producer and screenwriter Rossanna Hwang cast her for the role.
According to the 61-year-old actress, “She looked for me through the barangay chairman of Magallanes,” a village in Makati City.

Even Jaime Fabregas, Carmi’s co-star in Isang Komedya Sa Langit, was also contacted through the barangay chairman—since the two are neighbors.

With 45 years in the entertainment industry, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Carmi about her thoughts on the current generation of actors.

Has she ever had a negative experience with a younger star?

Laughing, Carmi admitted, “There was one I confronted. Hahaha.”

When asked who it was, she replied, “I can’t remember anymore. It was a girl. She was consistently late!”

“One time, someone gave me coffee that was supposedly for slimming.
“But it turned out it actually just made me irritable,” she said with a laugh.

What project did this happen on?

Lastikman,” said Carmi, referring to the 2008 ABS-CBN TV adaptation starring Vhong Navarro, where she was part of the supporting cast.

She continued, “When she arrived, all my frustration was directed at her because she was always late and never apologized.

“But once the camera rolled, we acted like nothing happened.”

It wasn’t just a matter of minutes—she was late by hours.

How did Carmi confront her co-star?

“I told her, ‘You know, you’re always late. Don’t you realize we’re all waiting for you?!’

“She didn’t respond.

“I don’t know, maybe it was the road manager’s responsibility to inform us about conflicts in their schedule.

“They should’ve told us because we were waiting for so long.”

Though the young actress didn’t apologize, Carmi noted that she was never late again.

“I remember she just ignored me. But people like that, with attitude problems, usually don’t last long in showbiz.

“As for me, whenever I’m late—or even before I arrive—I text my co-actors to say, ‘I’m so sorry!’”

Carmi said Aki Blanco was never late during the shoot of Isang Komedya Sa Langit.

“I think it’s because all of us came prepared. Madam [Rossanna Hwang] told us in advance that we only had a few shooting days… so you couldn’t show up clueless or unprepared.”

The cast also includes EA Guzman, Gene Padilla, and John Medina.

The film is directed by Roi Paolo Calilong and produced by Kapitana Entertainment Media.
