Let’s Look Back at Some Heartwarming Testimonials from Netizens About the One and Only Superstar, Nora Aunor

One of those who shared her experience with Ate Guy was actress Chanda Romero, recounting an unforgettable moment with Nora in a feature from PW Spotlight. Chanda had a funny and memorable story about the late actress.

Chanda said, “I remember the first time I guested on ‘Superstar,’ she told me, ‘You know, when you first guested on the show, I really hoped you wouldn’t speak in English.’”

Superstar was Nora Aunor’s musical variety show that ran from 1971 to 1989. Chanda, who joined the showbiz industry in the early 1970s, continued: “I was still new then, I came from Cebu. I’m a Cebuana. When I was starting out, I didn’t speak much Tagalog in interviews, especially when I was interviewed by Inday Badiday—I’d speak in English because I didn’t know how to speak Tagalog well.”

“I could just imagine her approaching, wondering, ‘Is she going to speak English?’ I found it so funny. It really made me laugh.”

Chanda also shared something from Ricky Lee, who described how deeply loved and idolized Nora was by her avid fans.

“Ricky Lee told me so many stories about her, like a father would tell stories about his child. You really wouldn’t believe it,” Chanda said.

“At one point, I think they were shooting a film, and Nora needed to rest. But her fans still wanted to see her. So what happened was—while she was lying down on the couch at the shooting location—her fans just walked in and went around her to get a glimpse. They just watched her sleep.”

“That’s how loyal and admiring her fans were to Guy. It was almost as if they worshipped her—though of course, they shouldn’t—but the admiration was nearly at that level.”
