I Collapsed, Stunned After Discovering My Fiancée’s Terrifying Secret
“Many people at the company have always been curious how, despite your low salary and ordinary family background, you’re constantly using luxury items and going on lavish vacations.”
I had been dating her for over a year. We were planning to get married after this Lunar New Year. She was someone who lived for social media — always knowing how to attract attention with motivational quotes and life philosophies.
I, on the other hand, was different. Working in IT, I lived a quiet, sometimes emotionally detached life. But in love, I’ve always been sincere and proper. My job could support a comfortable life for a wife and kids. My parents are civil servants back in the countryside — a family rooted in discipline and values. Since I was young, they taught me to live righteously and decently.
We met while working at the same company. She worked in customer service and had joined two years before I did. According to her salary range, she made around 9 to 12 million VND per month. But I always felt like that amount was insignificant to her.
Many coworkers often wondered how she could afford luxury brands and extravagant trips with such a modest salary and normal family background. They told me there was even a time when she boasted about spending up to 60 million a month. But since dating me, she had toned it down. She had an apartment before we met, which she said her parents bought for her when she graduated. I didn’t have a house yet, but I had a car, so if we got married, we’d still be well-equipped.
I moved into her apartment. All the expenses — food, leisure, daily living, shopping — I paid for. I cooked, cleaned the house, and on days I asked her to help, she would just hire someone to do it. We had been living together for half a year, and not once had she cooked me a single meal. She kept the habit of spending other people’s money without any sense of restraint.
She always said, “A man’s heart is wherever he puts his money,” but she never considered that there were nights I stayed up working all night. The piles of clothes and luxury items in her closet were all bought with the money I had worked so hard to earn. When I offered her feedback, she would criticize me — both in real life and on social media. And when I visited her family, I could clearly see they lived modestly and could not possibly afford to buy her a condo or support her lavish lifestyle. Over time, I became suspicious, especially after hearing a few things from colleagues.
I spent a long time digging into her past. And what I discovered left me completely shaken: she used to be a “sugar baby,” a “little sister” taken care of by other men. I’ve never respected women who lived like that — and yet, she had been involved with several married men. One of them even gave her the apartment she’s living in now, after two years of being his mistress.
She eventually confessed after I confronted her seriously. She cried — cried a lot. But I was in even more pain. Pain and disappointment. In that moment, love felt so small and powerless — it could not possibly be big enough to forgive such lies and darkness.
She begged me to look past her history, saying that the present and the future we could have together were what really mattered. But I just couldn’t accept it.
Both men and women have their own pride, their own worth. Maybe people will say I didn’t love her enough to forgive her past. And maybe it’s true — very few men can truly forget something like that if their girlfriend was someone like her.
I didn’t want a life full of regret and resentment. So I ended the relationship — even though our families had already met, even though she kept pleading for my forgiveness.
It’s heartbreaking — heartbreaking for a love that didn’t make it, heartbreaking for a woman who lost her self-respect and gave up her fundamental worth.
