I cursed the day I visited my girlfriend at her father’s house, not knowing that security cameras had already been installed. If I had known that the visit would bring me serious trouble and make me cry that day, I wouldn’t have tried to go.
It was Friday morning. Vanessa told me to come over to her father’s house because she was the only one there.
According to her, her parents had traveled abroad for an appointment and wouldn’t return for two weeks. Upon hearing that, I felt overwhelming joy — I couldn’t resist the excitement, thinking it would be the perfect chance to finally be intimate with my girlfriend. Vanessa and I had been dating for as long as I could remember, but we had never had the chance to even kiss or touch each other due to her parents’ overprotectiveness and strict rules.
Her father was a high-ranking soldier, and her mother was a police officer. They were so strict and disciplined that they didn’t even want to see a trace of a man near Vanessa.
Part 2:
One time, Vanessa’s father and his fellow officers beat a man mercilessly just because they saw him with Vanessa.
Since then, I never wanted to get involved in that kind of trouble, so I only spoke to Vanessa over the phone, and we did so whenever I had the slightest chance to call her. Many times, I had wished to see Vanessa and spend a nice moment together, but she was always in her duplex.
Now, her parents had traveled, and Vanessa was the only one at home. As soon as Vanessa told me and hung up, I danced with joy and screamed in excitement. I took a shower, put on one of my best outfits, sprayed myself with cologne, and set out.
I arrived at the house. The gate was closed. I called Vanessa, and she told me to sneak over the fence discreetly.
Although it was difficult, I finally managed to climb the fence, falling hard onto the ground. I got a small bruise on my elbow and stained my clothes, but I didn’t care.
Vanessa took me to her room, we talked for a bit, and we started making love on her bed. We were kissing and slowly undressing each other when suddenly we heard someone knocking at the door.
My heart sank, I jumped off the bed in shock, and I started to feel heat rushing through my body.
“Vanessa, who is it?” I asked, sensing that she too was beginning to panic…
Part 3:
Vanessa ran to the window and gently pulled back the curtain. Her face went pale. “It’s my dad!” she whispered in terror. I felt like my heart had stopped.
“What? I thought they were abroad?” I said, trembling.
“So did I! He said they’d be gone for two weeks!”
Quickly, I grabbed my clothes scattered on the floor, dressed as fast as I could, and searched for an exit. But it was too late. The electric gate sounded. He was already inside.
“Hide under the bed!” Vanessa shouted in desperation.
I crawled under, my heart about to explode. Just seconds later, we heard heavy footsteps climbing the stairs. The door burst open.
“Vanessa? Why was the door locked?” her father asked in a deep voice that sent chills down the spine.
“I was… I was sleeping, Dad,” she replied in a trembling voice.
From under the bed, I could see his military boots approaching dangerously. The man looked around the room suspiciously. The messy bed, the closed curtains — and then… his eyes went straight to the upper corner where a small security camera blinked with a red light.
“Who was here with you?” he asked, more serious now.
“No one! I swear, Dad!” she sobbed.
But right then, her phone buzzed. A notification from the security system app.
He opened it. Played the video… and then we heard it:
“Vanessa! You’re so beautiful… we’re finally alone!”
I swallowed hard.
The screen clearly showed me jumping the fence, her guiding me through the hallway, and both of us entering the room…
A deadly silence filled the air.
Then, I heard the sound of a belt unbuckling.
“Come out of your hiding place right now before I grab my gun!” he shouted in fury.
Vanessa fell to her knees, crying. I didn’t know whether to come out or pray for a miracle.
And then… the inevitable happened.
Part 4:
My breathing grew so fast I thought it would give me away. But hiding was useless now. I knew they had seen me on the video. That my life was literally seconds from ending. So, slowly, I crawled out from under the bed.
“G-good afternoon, sir,” I stammered, raising my hands as if that could protect me from the furious beast standing before me.
Colonel Ogundele — yes, that was his name — stared at me with bloodshot eyes, the veins in his neck bulging, and fists clenched. He said nothing. He just… stared. A silence more terrifying than a scream.
“You… you were the one who came here, jumped my fence, touched my daughter in my bed, and thought you’d just walk away like nothing happened?” he finally said in a low voice — far more dangerous than a shout.
“Dad, please! I invited him! It was my fault!” Vanessa screamed through sobs.
He didn’t even look at her. He just kept staring at me.
“Do you know I have the power to make you disappear — and no one would ever ask a single question?” he said.
I couldn’t speak. The words wouldn’t come. My eyes burned with tears.
“What’s your name?” he asked, with a calm that was even more terrifying.
“D-David… sir,” I said, on the verge of collapse.
“And do you know what’s going to happen now, David?”
I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“You’re going to get dressed. You’re going to walk down those stairs. You’re going to walk out the front door. And if you have a shred of common sense… you will never set foot near my house. Or my daughter. Understood?”
I nodded frantically.
“And if you think this video is going to disappear… you’re very wrong. I’ll keep it. I’ll preserve it. And if I ever see your shadow again, I’ll send it to every university, every office, every place where you try to build your life. Is that clear?”
“Y-yes, sir,” I managed to say, my legs shaking uncontrollably.
I turned toward Vanessa. Her eyes were full of sadness and regret, but also helplessness. I knew that from that moment on, whatever we had… was over.
I went down the stairs. Walked toward the door. When I crossed the threshold, I felt as if I had just survived an execution.
I ran. Without looking back.
That day, I learned that not every opportunity is a blessing. Some are traps disguised as desire.
FINAL: ONE YEAR LATER
A year had passed since that afternoon that changed my life. I never went near Vanessa’s house again. I never called her. For weeks I had nightmares — nightmares where the colonel found me in the middle of the street with a rifle in his hands.
I moved to a different city, started working in a university bookstore, and tried to rebuild my life. But her face — Vanessa’s face — never disappeared. I loved her. I still loved her, even though I knew it could never be.
One rainy day, as I was closing the shop, a young woman ran in, her jacket soaked.
“David?”
My heart nearly stopped. It was her. Vanessa.
“What… what are you doing here?” I stammered.
“I escaped.” Her voice was trembling. “I couldn’t take it anymore. They locked me up for months, took my phone, controlled my every move. But they couldn’t erase you from my mind.”
I was speechless. All the repressed pain, all the anger, all the guilt — it hit me at once.
“Vanessa… they ruined us,” I said with a broken voice. “What we had was love, but they turned it into sin.”
She took a step forward. Her eyes were no longer those of a girl sheltered behind a military wall. They were the eyes of a determined woman.
“I didn’t come here to ask for anything. I came to tell you that I still love you. And this time… I won’t let them take you from me.”
We embraced. There, among damp books, distant thunder, and second chances.
A month later, a video went viral on social media: “Officer’s Daughter Escapes with Ex-Boyfriend Bookstore Clerk. Father Responds at Press Conference.”
The colonel, stone-faced, simply said:
“You can’t stop love. The only thing you can do… is pray it doesn’t destroy you.”
