On My Wedding Night, I Froze in Shock When I Saw My Husband… Put On Medical Gloves to Touch His Wife
People often say marriage is a sweet milestone, the beginning of a new chapter. But for me, my wedding night became the most haunting memory of my life. Even now, whenever I recall it, I still shiver.
We had known each other for more than a year through matchmaking. He was gentle, kind, and had a stable job in the medical field. Both families approved, and I thought I was lucky to have met a mature, serious man. During our courtship, he was very restrained. He never crossed the line—only holding hands, light hugs, sometimes a quick kiss. I used to think it was because he respected me.
The wedding went smoothly. Friends celebrated, families were joyful. I was excited for our first night as husband and wife. But the moment the door of our bridal room closed, everything took an unimaginable turn.
He sat on the bed and opened the small medical bag he always carried. I was a little surprised but didn’t think much of it—until he pulled out a box of medical gloves and calmly put them on. Startled, I joked: “What are you doing, planning to perform surgery on me?”
He didn’t laugh. His face was deadly serious, almost cold. Then he said: “I can’t touch you with my bare hands. I’m afraid of bacteria, afraid of infection.”
I froze. It felt like a bucket of ice water had been poured over me. I tried to stay calm and asked if something was wrong. He just shook his head, saying it was a “professional habit,” a way to “ensure safety.” But deep down, I knew this wasn’t normal.
That night, I felt both humiliated and terrified. All the anticipation and romance of a new bride vanished, replaced with doubt and fear. I no longer felt like a wife—but like a patient on her husband’s examination table.
In the days that followed, things only grew clearer. He always kept his distance, avoiding intimate contact. If I so much as touched his glass of water, he would immediately change it. That was when I realized this wasn’t just a habit—it was an obsession.
I confided in my mother-in-law. She sighed and admitted he had suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) about cleanliness since childhood. The family had kept it secret, fearing I would reject the marriage. She believed that once married, with a wife and a family, he would gradually change. But life isn’t that simple.
Now I stand at a crossroads. On one side is the affection I still have for him—a responsible, kind husband who has never done me wrong. On the other side is the fear and emptiness of a marriage without even the most basic physical closeness.
Many nights, I cried myself to sleep, asking: “Can I accept a marriage where we never touch? Do I have the patience to help him overcome this illness?”
I still don’t have an answer. But one thing is certain: that wedding night changed everything. It turned me from a dreamy girl into a woman forced to face a harsh reality—that marriage is not only about love, but also about secrets and flaws no one reveals until it’s far too late.
So what should I do now?
