Many were shocked by the revelations made by John Rendez in his recent interview on Julius Babao’s YouTube vlog, Julius Babao UNPLUGGED, which aired just this May 22, 1985 on said online platforms. No one expected that John was actually the one who took care of the Superstar throughout her life—especially since the beginning of her battle with her illness that had her in and out of the hospital for nearly three years.

Unknown to many, it was not her family—particularly her children Lotlot, Ian, Matet, and Kenneth—who carried the full responsibility of taking care of the late Superstar. Instead, it was another person entirely who attended to all of Nora Aunor’s needs at all times, and that person was none other than former rapper John Rendez.

And if you read the comments on that particular vlog of Julius Babao with John, many are saying that all of John’s statements seemed like indirect digs at Nora Aunor’s children. And who wouldn’t think so? Instead of the family and children taking care of the Superstar during her most critical moments fighting her illness, it was John who had the courage to stay by Nora Aunor’s side at all times—until she finally passed away.

In the said vlog, John Rendez openly shared everything about Nora Aunor’s final days before she left this world. He said he loved the Superstar deeply—even more than himself. That’s why he saw no reason to leave her alone to face all the suffering brought about by her illness.

But according to a statement made by Cristy Fermin on her program Showbiz Now Na! alongside Romel Chika and Wendell Alvarez, Nora Aunor’s children were reportedly not pleased with what John Rendez said publicly regarding the role he played when their mother was still alive.

Lotlot and Matet, the children of the Superstar, said that John should have also acknowledged their efforts and obligations to their mother—because there wasn’t a single week that went by without them visiting their mother at her home in Pasig City. In fact, they said they would often go together to visit her—including Ian de Leon.

Cristy Fermin further relayed that the camp of Matet and Lotlot expressed disappointment, asking John Rendez not to lie to the public because his statements made it seem as if they were the bad ones in the wake of their mother’s death.

The Superstar passed away on the eve of Holy Week, April 16, due to complications from an endoplastic operation—an operation that her body could no longer withstand, ultimately leading to her death.

Nora Aunor left behind a significant legacy for the Filipino people. Recently, she was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit by Malacañang, along with other notable names in the industry such as the late Gloria Romero, Pilita Corrales, and Margaret Forrest.
