Manila, Philippines — One of the biggest and most horrifying missing persons cases in recent Philippine history may finally be seeing the light of day. Over 30 individuals linked to cockfighting (sabungeros) are now believed to have been brutally murdered — their bodies stuffed inside sealed metal drums, weighed down with cement, and dumped into the depths of Taal Lake.
Cement-Sealed Drums Found Beneath Taal Waters
According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), technical divers are preparing to retrieve metal drums allegedly containing human remains from the bottom of Taal Lake. Some bones have already been recovered, and forensic experts are working to confirm their identities.
A key whistleblower, codenamed “Totoy,” revealed that the victims were gagged, bound, suffocated inside a van, and then dumped into the lake like garbage. He also claimed to possess a fake passport given to him by gambling kingpin Atong Ang to flee the country. “I traveled to Singapore, Cambodia, even Europe with that passport,” he said, further alleging high-level protection behind the cover-up.
A Retired Judge: Atong Ang’s Insider?
Even more explosive is the alleged involvement of a retired judge now working with PCSO (Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office), who Totoy claims acted as a fixer for Atong Ang. DOJ Secretary Boying Remulla confirmed coordination with the Supreme Court, and said several members of the judiciary are now under investigation.
“This fixer brings judges, prosecutors — even arranges meetings with them overseas,” Remulla added. “That’s how powerful Atong Ang is.”
15 Police Officers Detained — High-Ranking Officials Implicated
So far, 15 police officials are under restrictive custody at Camp Crame. According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), they are facing both criminal and administrative cases in connection with the sabungeros’ abduction and disappearance.
More complaints are being filed, with a growing list of influential personalities across the judiciary, law enforcement, and possibly even showbiz being investigated.

The names of Atong Ang — the powerful online gambling boss — and Gretchen Barretto, a popular actress, have been repeatedly mentioned by the whistleblower. Although both deny involvement, their connections to powerful circles and large money flows from e-sabong continue to raise suspicions.
