NATATANDAAN NIYO PA BA SIYA? HETO NA SIYA NGAYON! Maagang nabuntis?

Who could ever forget this super cute and bubbly little girl?
Even millennials and Gen Zs have surely watched some of her movies—films that have left a lasting impression on many Filipinos from then until now. In a new chapter of Serena Dalrymple’s life, her story reflects perseverance and transformation throughout her showbiz journey.
Serena became well-known as a child actress, beloved by many for her roles in movies and TV shows during the 2000s. Born on July 14, 1989, in Manila, Philippines, she grew up in front of the camera, becoming a part of the movie industry at a very young age. As a child star, she had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in showbiz, which laid the foundation for her career.
Serena’s acting talent was first noticed in a Jollibee Chickenjoy commercial, where she appeared alongside veteran actor Aga Muhlach.
“What’s this? Basketball? No—it’s Chickenjoy! This is where I belong—Jollibee time!”
That Jollibee commercial in 1997, featuring the young Serena and heartthrob Aga Muhlach, became incredibly popular and served as her stepping stone into showbiz.
In 1998, Serena starred in one of her most iconic films, “Bata, Bata… Paano Ka Ginawa?”, where she acted alongside the Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos, who is now a prominent figure in politics. Serena was just seven years old at the time.
Who could forget her iconic scenes with Comedy King Dolphy in another film? Every time the soundtrack from that movie plays, it evokes pure nostalgia—a simple song but with a deeply emotional message.
Besides movies, Serena also appeared in TV series like “Walang Hanggan”, “Ang Susunod na Kabanata”, and more.
While Serena was actively acting, she experienced personal tragedies. Her Scottish-American father passed away when she was only seven, and just three years later, her mother Wilma Bilyones died of pneumonia. Despite these heartbreaking losses, Serena and her two sisters, Sarah and Samantha, came to accept the reality of being orphans.
Thankfully, their Uncle Samson, their mother’s brother, and his family stepped in to guide and support them.
At such a young age, Serena was not only great at playing roles on screen but also at managing real-life responsibilities. While her sisters received pensions from the American government, Serena didn’t qualify at first because she was still earning her own income as a child star.
However, when she left showbiz, she too became eligible for a pension until the age of 18. Because their late father, Robert Lloyd, was a US military officer, the US Embassy even covered their tuition and allowances.
Serena never gave up despite losing both parents. She chose to be strong for her sisters. They became closer, enjoying trips together and going shopping. They also matured early, especially when it came to responsibilities. Since Serena earned more than her sisters’ pensions, she covered almost all their household expenses.
Serena starred in many films and shows, becoming a household name in showbiz. But despite her success, she chose to step away from the spotlight and focus on her personal life.
In 2004, she decided to stop her showbiz career to pursue her studies at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. She made brief returns in 2008 and 2010 to star in the movies “Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat” and “Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last na ‘To)”.
Serena later graduated with a degree in Export Management. Afterward, she went to London to pursue her Master’s degree at Hult International Business School. She worked as a sourcing analyst at Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles, California, but later left the job and became a manager at Viacom abroad.
It was also abroad that she met her husband, Thomas Bley, in 2018. They traveled to Scotland and Paris in 2019 and bought a house in 2020. In 2022, they got married.
Now, Serena is exploring a new path in Philippine showbiz, gaining renewed attention from fans. She’s no longer just the bubbly child star—she’s a happier, more experienced woman, ready to take on the challenges of the entertainment industry.
Aside from her comeback, Serena is also a dedicated mother, enjoying her family life. After years of rest and reflection, she has found true joy in motherhood. Today, she is focused on raising her child and being a hands-on mom, while continuing to follow her passion for entertainment.
Her child gave her life new meaning, and she proves that motherhood is not a hindrance to success—it’s a source of strength and inspiration to work harder every day.
Serena continues to enjoy family happiness while also fulfilling her dreams of bringing joy to her fans.
“I mean, if you’re really passionate about acting, then go for it. Do everything it takes to get there. But always keep in mind—you need to have a contingency plan. For me, that was studying, since the world of showbiz is uncertain. That’s the same advice I’d give to everyone: have a backup plan in case things don’t go your way.”
“It was hard growing up. I was sleep-deprived—and for a kid who’s moody, that’s hard to manage. But it was also fun. Most of the shows and movies I did were with people my age, so it felt like I was just hanging out with friends. Still, there were tough parts too—like not getting enough sleep. You weren’t exactly forced, but…”
