The family of the father of the three children burned by their mother, Joyce, has spoken out in defense. According to them, they had long tried to convince Joyce and her family to have her checked by a doctor, but they refused because they didn’t want her to be labeled as “crazy.” A niece of Kim Aspero said that they did everything they could to help Joyce, but her family would not accept the help.

She added that what happened was very painful and they wished they could have done something to prevent the tragedy. She also pleaded with others to stop the blaming and the hurtful words, especially since people don’t know the full story. In response to a netizen, Kim Aspero’s niece said:

“Yes. Our uncle already talked to her parents before. He asked them to have her checked, but they refused. They said they’re not crazy. But that’s the problem — my aunt had too much pride. She didn’t want help. Because people knew what we were trying to do for her.
There’s no one left to blame now — it’s already happened. But still, it’s something we can’t stop thinking about — we keep wondering if we could’ve done something to stop this from happening.

To those who are saying hurtful things without knowing anything — please stop. You weren’t there to tell us what we should’ve done. Because we already did our part. They were the ones who chose to keep their distance.
Thank you, Yumi, for your sympathy.”

When a netizen asked how they could support her, the niece replied:

“It’s just that she herself didn’t want to be helped,” said a relative of Kim.

Some netizens also commented that people suffering from anxiety and depression might appear insane because their minds are no longer in their control — overwhelmed by severe problems, exhaustion, overthinking, sleeplessness, and the absence of emotional support.

They said that if she had received proper understanding, care, someone to talk to, and had been brought to a doctor — which should have been the husband’s responsibility — this could have been avoided.

“Anyway, it’s over. There’s nothing left to do but pray that they find peace. As for those she left behind — may God take care of them.”

Some questioned:

“If the mother was truly insane, then why were the kids so clean and well taken care of?”

Now, they say the story is being twisted because she’s already dead. Others speculated:

“Maybe this is karma finally catching up to the police officer and his mother, and their conscience won’t let them sleep.
The Mama’s Boy cop’s family is just making excuses to hide the real reason behind what happened with the wife.

The truth is, that Mama’s Boy already had another woman, and he was still dependent on his mother.

Think about it — you have three kids and you only give 2,500 pesos as allowance? Where did the cop’s big salary go? Most likely to his mistress.”

So some argued:

“Stop diverting the issue. The real reason the woman did what she did was because of how deeply depressed she became due to what that Mama’s Boy did to her.”
