Gigi de Lana was EMOTIONAL at the launch of her first single “Sakalam” with Gigi Vibes Band this Monday afternoon.

The singer shared the many hardships she and her group went through and how their first single was written.

“I’m very happy because we didn’t give up on our goal and we wanted to reach it even though we have different visions, different goals, but when we got together again, we created this Sakalam, which is a beautiful song thanks to Rome and Erwin.

“We had out first single, we are so happy, I’m very happy my heart is overflowing now because we have worked hard and been through a lot. We are not perfect but you still love us for who we are and we are very, very thankful for that,” the girl said tearfully.

We watched the entire music video for “Sakalam” that was uploaded to the YouTube channel of ABS-CBN Star Music and directed by Chad Vidanes. As we write this news, it has reached over 30,000 views and almost all the comments we read say that they cried because of the beauty of the song because it made their hearts ache.

Of course, we also feel the pain of the song that really pierces the heart and the melody is also beautiful so it is easy to remember that many will definitely be able to relate. It was written by Gigi’s bandmate Romeo Marquez and his boyfriend Erwin Lacsa of Tritone Studios.

That’s right because before Gigi appeared at the virtual mediacon, she was heartbroken because she and her boyfriend had a little fight.

“The heartbreak that happened to me recently was (just) earlier. But it didn’t do anything, it wasn’t like that. Ha-hahaha!” Gigi said, making a gesture of separation.

She continued, “That’s still the case (they’re still making gestures). Ha-hahaha! Actually, I’m the one who’s the one here (wrong).

“Because recently I’ve been too emotional, you know, we girls have a tendency to get hot-headed quickly, sometimes we can’t calm ourselves down.

“Then when we touch you, you walk away. Ha-hahaha! Don’t you want him (boyfriend) to touch you and then walk away, that hurts them.

“So, he (boyfriend) told me earlier that he changed when you repeated something, he could apply it to himself, ‘okay, over and over again.’

“So, I cried earlier, it’s really hard that I was the one who made him change when he didn’t want to change, so you know that? I kept crying (wiping my eyes at the same time). It hurts because you are the reason why he changed (tears kept flowing), that’s all,” Gigi complained.

Mediacon host DJ Jhaiho then caught up with her, “Oh, that really hurts. Those jokes that want to provoke each other and everything, right? We have different personalities that you thought were just joking, but it actually has an effect on his heart.”

While Gigi was telling her story, we had a chat with some people who said that the girl is not yet in showbiz because she was able to talk about her personal life.

Going back to “Sakalam” (Strong), the title of which should have been “Dahilan” (Reason) but since the words are reversed, they thought of something that would fit the chorus of the song.

According to Romeo, who wrote the lyrics, “Because Sakalam is very catchy, most of the youth today, that’s the word they’re using now. So, that’s all we thought of.”

Gigi added, “There are so many people who use that word, so, for those who don’t know, the opposite of strong, strong means, it hurts so much, it’s so cruel, just take it easy.”

Meanwhile, being the first original song by the newest pop rock diva and so-called breakthrough star of 2021, “Sakalam” is also the first single from her debut full-length album to be released in 2022. The song is currently at the top spot on Spotify Philippines’ Fresh Finds playlist.

The Star Magic artist and RISE Artists Studio talent recorded “Sakalam” with members of The Gigi Vibes band Jon Cruz, Jake Manalo, LA Arquero, and Romeo Marquez. Jon arranged the song and ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo produced it.

Gigi will be part of the Filipino music festival 1MX Dubai and will headline her own YouTube Music Night digital concert, both of which will be held in December.
