A post that allegedly contained news that the couple Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid are going to separate has become a hot topic on social media. According to information from the post, it is said that the two are already processing divorce papers due to the issue of infidelity.
Ogie saw the said post and reacted through his Threads account. According to him, the fake news that is being spread on a Facebook page is not true. The headline of the said post is: “Regine Velasquez Pinaasikaso na Divorce Papers nila ni Ogie Alcasid matas ng Pagtakatasil!”
He issued a statement: “This post was sent to me. It is so sad that the owner would spread rumors about our marriage that is so sacred to both me and my wife and fabricate stories about our supposed separation. I report it,”
Although Ogie did not directly mention whether he plans to file a case against the person behind the said post, many netizens suggested that he take legal action. According to them, it is not enough to simply report the page; it is better for him to file a case like Mon Confiado did, who filed a cyber libel suit against a vlogger who allegedly made up a false story against him.
Many people expressed their opinion that Ogie should take steps to stop this kind of defamation. For them, filing a case would not only show determination to protect their reputation but also teach a lesson to those spreading false information.
This issue has highlighted the need to be careful in giving and receiving information on social media. In this day and age, news and rumors spread quickly, and we don’t know which ones are true. Therefore, it is important to be critical and responsible in spreading information.
On the other hand, Ogie and Regine’s supporters have shown their understanding and support for the couple. They have shown their concern by reporting the said fake news and expressing concern for their reputation. This kind of support is important in facing the challenges posed by misinformation and defamation.
In this situation, social media platforms also have an important role to play in responding to reports of misinformation and defamation. They should ensure that their mechanisms for removing fake news are effective and reliable to prevent the spread of these types of posts.
Overall, the incident highlights the importance of being responsible in using social media. The spread of fake news and rumors can cause unnecessary worry and conflict, and we must be critical of the information we receive and share.
