Matet de Leon Shares Tearful Bonding Moment with Nora Aunor and Ian de Leon Before the Superstar’s Final Days
In a moment that will forever be etched in her memory, actress Matet de Leon opened up about an emotional, intimate time she recently shared with her late mother, the one and only Nora Aunor, and her brother Ian de Leon — a moment filled with laughter, silence, tears, and an unspoken understanding that the end was near.
A Simple Gathering, A Lifetime of Meaning
In a heartfelt interview following her mother’s passing, Matet recounted how a quiet afternoon turned into one of the most profound bonding experiences they’d had as a family in years.
“We didn’t plan anything grand. We just wanted to be with her,” Matet shared, her voice trembling. “Ian and I sat beside her on the couch. Mama was tired, but she was smiling. She kept holding our hands — she didn’t want to let go.”
The three talked about the past — childhood memories, favorite family dishes, and even silly moments during filming. Despite the physical weakness Nora Aunor had been battling for years, that day she seemed at peace.
Tears Without Words
As the sun began to set, Matet recalled how the atmosphere shifted. “There was this stillness. We all became quiet. Then Mama whispered something — barely audible. She said, ‘Thank you, mga anak. Hindi kayo nawala.’”
That moment brought the three of them to tears. They didn’t need to say much. Their hearts understood everything that couldn’t be put into words.
“She wasn’t just our mother that day,” Matet added. “She was a friend, a fighter, and our greatest love.”
The Last Embrace
Before they left, Nora insisted on giving each of them a warm, long embrace.
“I knew she was trying to make it last,” Ian de Leon later admitted. “She wanted us to remember that hug. It was her way of saying goodbye without breaking us.”
A Bond Beyond Fame
Though their family had faced misunderstandings and public challenges over the years, this final bonding moment proved that love never left. Forgiveness, peace, and unconditional affection filled the room that day — a space Nora had always tried to protect for her children.
“She was tired, but she waited for that day,” Matet said. “She waited to feel like a mother again, not just a Superstar. And we made sure she felt that.”
A Legacy of Love
Matet hopes this story reminds everyone that behind the legend was a mother with a gentle heart, and a family that loved her dearly. “We all saw her on stage. But I will remember her hand squeezing mine one last time.”
Actress and businesswoman Matet de Leon aired her frustration on social media last Sunday, December 4, after she felt betrayed by her adoptive mother, veteran actress Nora Aunor.
Matet expressed her disbelief following her mom’s actions, revealing that she was asked to promote a product that was directly competing with hers.
On Instagram, Matet showed her mother’s product as well as hers so that her followers would know why she felt frustrated over the situation.
“Would you do this to your children? HONOR THY FATHER AND MOTHER. HOW? How can I do that now? Oh, I AM AN ADOPTED. One night, I was told to just resell my mother’s products,” she shared.
The actress couldn’t believe that Nora would do such a thing as her mother knew she sells the exact same product.
Matet revealed that Nora reasoned out that she has been doing financially well due to the number of shows she gets that’s why she decided to sell the same product as her daughter’s.
“We struggled with the sales. Why all of a sudden, I was just surprised, my mother released a direct competitor to my product. She knew I had a product like that,” she said.
“I’m doing a lot of tapings. What do you think I should do now? What’s good to do? If you have children, WOULD YOU DO THIS TO YOUR CHILDREN,” she added.
The 39-year-old actress went live on YouTube to further explain her side, particularly why she felt betrayed by her own family.
“Instead of supporting me, instead of ‘go son!’ not [like] ‘I’m better than you,’ is that it? I really don’t know what the reason is. Is [she] showing me that she’s more famous, more good, and has more fans? So more people will buy it? I really don’t know. This is my opinion, I just feel like it,” she said.
“I don’t even know her products/ I don’t care. What I do care about is what she did. She sent it to me, like ‘Look, what I got here!’ That’s what she did. So weird,” she continued.
Matet went on to share different experiences she had with the Filipino superstar growing up as an adoptive daughter.
Despite the awkward situation that happened between them, Nora said she still loves her mom.
